Gerry Francis' men got off to a perfect start to the new season, romping home to a 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town at Loftus Road. With Huddersfield fielding no less than six debutants, Steve Bruce's men struggled to get to grips with The R's, and paid the price after just sixteen minutes. Jermaine Darlington broke the deadlock with a curling effort from all of 20 yards which bamboozled Nico Vaesen in the visitor's goal, and earned his first strike for the club. Frontman Chris Kiwomya doubled Rangers' advantage on 38 minutes completing a fine, flowing move which concluded with the former Ipswich Town and Arsenal ace racing on to strike partner Rob Steiner's header-on to blast past the Belgian. As half time approached former Hartlepool midfielder Chris Beech went closest for Town, seeing his effort come back off the post. Into the second period, The Terriers began to find some pattern in their play, and earned their reward on 65 minutes courtesy of debut boy Clyde Wijnhard. The summer signing from Leeds United jinked through the Rangers defence before seeing his shot deflect past Miklosko. The threat from the visitors was shortlived however, as Gavin Peacock struck to recoup The R's two-goal advantage. With eleven minutes remaining, Kiwomya broke down the right, and his low cross was met by Peacock's diving header. The thoroughly deserved victory for Gerry Francis' men against a Huddersfield side fancied to challenge for promotion was met by a standing ovation by the Rangers' faithful.
