RANGERS were left kicking themselves, and cursing their bad luck, after the woodwork and some frantic Portsmouth defending denied them a fourth straight league win. Rangers hit the bar four times in the second half, and threatened to run away with the game, but as it was a large slice of luck befell Portsmouth. First Rob Steiner hit the underside of the bar when he stuck out a foot to steer Danny Maddix's long ball goalwards. The Pompey defence may have been beaten, but not the woodwork, that was to act as a twelfth man for the visitors. Minutes later Tim Breacker broke down the right, his cross found Kiwomya in space, and the former Arsenal and Ipswich striker blasted his shot against the underside of the bar when he looked odds on to find the back of the net, Finally, Tim Breaker was the third man to experience disappointment as his cross clipped the post and was bundled out to safety. Pompey to their credit though dug in for the draw and stuck to their task solidly. They could have stolen all the points late on though, as Lee Bradbury set up a chance for Sammy Igoe, but the midfielder stretched and couldn't divert the ball goalwards. Pompey defender Andy Awford was on hand on the stroke of the final whistle to ensure Rangers finished the game frustrated when he managed to heroically clear Ian Baraclough's free-kick off the line, and scramble the loose ball away for a corner.
