Two goals from Stuart Wardley and a late Chris
Kiwomya strike saw QPR go sixth after beating Port Vale 3-2 at
Loftus Road. Wardley's 16th minute strike
gave the home side an early one-nil lead and a great start as
Vale struggled. Rangers began the match
with a highly attacking line-up, featuring Gavin Peacock, Kevin
Gallen, Robin Langley and Rob Steiner.
The visitors found it hard to withstand the vigour
of that potent strike-force and Wardley forced Vale to succumb to
an early deficit. The match continued to go
well for Wardley, as the summer signing from Saffron Walden
doubled Rangers' lead on sixty-three minutes. However three late goals in the space of five minutes
threatened to leave the match on tenterhooks for the last ten
minutes. Firstly Jeff Minton pulled a goal
back for Vale with a seventy-fifth minute penalty, before Rangers'
substitute Chris Kiwomya restored the home side's two-goal
advantage at three-one just two minutes later. But with eighty minutes on the clock Vale again pegged
back Rangers' lead when Anthony Gardner headed home Dave Brammer's
cross at the back post. The final moments
were rather fraught as Vale attempted to level the scores but
Rangers held out to rise to sixth place in division one.
