A superb goal from Stuart Wardley earned battling Rangers their second success in four days and in the process consolidated the Super Hoops position in the top ten. Gerry Francis' men grabbed their first away win in 11 months at Ipswich Town last weekend and they stayed in top gear to snatch their second successive win on their travels. The goal was a beauty, Tim Breacker chipped a perfect right-wing cross into the middle where Wardley - signed from Saffron Walden at the start of the season and rapidly emerging as the bargain of the season - found the target with a powerful header. Earlier Rangers had been unlucky just past the half hour when Gavin Peacock fired in a shot that keeper Alan Miller dived to fingertip the ball around the post. West Brom for their part were struggling to compete and their only chance of the first half saw Enzo Maresca's 30-yarder dip just over the crossbar. Buoyed by the goal early in the second half Rangers pressed forward and were unlucky 12 minutes from time when a shot from that man Wardley beat Miller only to rattle the woodwork. Irish winger Kevin Kilbane squandered a good scoring chance when he powered his close-range header wide of the Rangers' goal whilst Lee Harper pulled off a fabulous save near the end when Albion defender Larus Sigurdsson powered in a close-range header only to be denied by a terrific save from the Rangers keeper.
