WHAT'S NEW AT RHYL MINIATURE RAILWAY, JANUARY 2002
|
Over winter 2000/2001 we restored the fourth old coach, and repainted the whole rake. Justin set about building a fifth vehicle using two spare bogies - claimed it would run at Easter and enter service on 5th May. This was it Easter - the first 5 coach train since 1969. It entered service on 5th May - with the paint just about dry! |

The 2000 season, was the
first for Rhyl Steam Preservation Trust as operators of the railway. We
carried 5.500 passengers on 45 days, 950 of them during the special event on
5th May. This was more than double the number carried in either 1999 or 2000.
This photograph was taken as JOAN was being put away for the last time in 2000, on September 9th. |

During the festive season we had a request
to demonstrate the KD1 to a potential purchaser, here it is outside the shed
on 22nd December 2001. |
During the winter of 2001/2002 activities have proceeded on various fronts. Further details can be found in the 'Friends of Rhyl Miniature Railway' Newsletter.

We have also been liaising with an initiative financed by the Welsh Development Agency involving a study and management plan, which should lead to site improvements.
JOAN: The valve gear has been dismantled and the Bala Lake Railway are machining the valve rods and various bearings. The tender running gear is being overhauled in order to improve its barking power.
Lister: Parts are being made for a tram-style roof.
Air brake project: A start has been made on fitting the first coach bogie with brake gear.
Station improvements: Panels of portable fencing have been made up which can be erected behind the platform on running days.
