WHAT'S NEW AT RHYL MINIATURE RAILWAY, AUGUST 2002
|
Joan departed on 7th
May for a brief holiday at the Lakeside Miniature Railway in Southport, where
she was in steam for the Heywood Society meeting on the 18th, pictured below,
returning to us on the 28th.
As an outward load on the 7th we acquired some 'Milnes' type bogies and two underframes from the Windmill Farm Railway. These will enable us to operate further traditional Rhyl coaches in the future. Our two little coaches, which had been stored at the Farm, also came to us with this load. |

| One of the most welcome sights of the year
so far was the departure of the 'KD1' multiple unit on 8th June (above). It
has been sold for future use on a project in the West Country, upon which its
designer Leslie Anderson is a key figure.
A first for us was this derailment on 16th June, caused before lighting up, by pushing the engine over a point which was spragged the wrong way. Just goes to show you've never seen it all! |

These two coaches were just too good to
resist, and arrived with us on 14th July.
They were made originally by the Cagney brothers in New York, and will be 'authentic' for use with our Cagney engine when it arrives next year. They spent their working life in Peru, where Jeremy Martin acquired them and had them restored, then exported to the UK. The locomotive that was with them was dated 1904. the front one is original whilst the woodwork on the back one is a replica. Both have original ironwork; it is difficult to tell them apart. |
