WHAT'S NEW AT RHYL MINIATURE RAILWAY, JUNE 2003
|
Over Winter 2002/2003 the
main development was building work on the north shore of Marine Lake adjacent
to the Wellington Road. Financed by the WDA, the objectives were to build a
new brighter wall, and to provide seating areas and a cycleway.
As part of this work 300 yards of track were lifted by us in September 2002. By Christmas th entire area was a boggy building site. |
|
|
| The contractors provided us with a
ballasted trackbed and Trust volunteers reinstated all 300 yards of track
during the first week of March. 300 new creosoted sleepers were used and 700
tonnes of ballast.
Our environment has now changed, with the new wall and bright blue fence on one side, and 'mounding' on the other. Our platform has a new access point from the market area which is wheelchair friendly. |

Work also proceeded at Rhyl on coach
restoration, and at Wrexham on the Cagney locomotive, which steamed for the
first time on 8th February 2003. The picture left shows its two restorers,
Frank Humphreys and Arthur Jones.
For more Cagney pictures from its tour to Windmill Farm, New Romney and Cleethorpes follow this link. A further major project is to equip our train with air brakes for emergency purposes. We hope to commission the new system shortly. |
