MARK PATTENDEN - trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he won the Clifford Memorial Prize and the Guildhall Shakespeare Prize. He has been teaching, directing and lecturing in London for the past 19 years. His extensive work in Youth Theatre includes many premier productions, including UNITED WE STAND, WILL THORNE and THE FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER SHOW. For eight years he was Artistic Director of SJS Theatre Workshop, a youth company based in the heart of London's East End , which he directed in many productions at the Theatre Royal Stratford East. He has directed and co-directed many productions with the National Youth Music Theatre since 1983, including, CAPTAIN STIRRICK, THE POWDER MONKEYS, ANNIE, JACK SPRATT V.C., BODYWORK, THE LITTLE RATS, THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE, PAL JOEY, GUYS AND DOLLS, BILLY, POPPY, LIGHTING THE CANDLE, and THE THREEPENNY OPERA and has toured to the USA, Hong Kong, Sweden, Greece and Japan with the company. Other recent London credits include, TEECHERS, FEAR AND MISERY OF THE THIRD REICH, SWEETIE PIE, POPPY, and THE SHORT STORY OF KATHERINE MANSFIELD. TV includes two series of Drama workshops for BBC Schools. He has also edited two collections of plays by John Mortimer, and devised a workshop programme on Brecht for New York High School teachers. Mark is currently Head of Performing Arts/ Director of Studio Theatre at North Westminster Community School, London's largest comprehensive.
