On the 15th June, 1901, a man named Treacey was seen in the Liffey at Dublin, near to Ormond's Quay. Abbott, at great risk, jumped in and endeavoured to rescue him, but failed and he was drowned.

On the 12th February, 1901, a youth named Reid fell through the ice on the Harelaw Dam, Port Glasgow. The depth of water was 14 feet, and he was 100 yards from the bank. At great risk, Anderson crawled out to the edge of the break and succeeded in saving him.

On the 26th February, 1901, while fording the Pongolo River, in the Transvaal, Trooper Johnson of the 6th Iniskilling Dragoons, was swept away in a strong current. Lieutenant Ansell at once swam out from the bank and at great risk, succeeded in saving him.

On the 8th August, 1900, a ferry boat was capsized on the Gogra River, Fyzabad, India; the river runs with a strong current and is infested with crocodiles. One of the party, a child, was being swept down the stream when Bakhshu plunged in and, at great risk, effected the rescue.

On the 7th December, 1900, Trumpeter W.J. MacMillan, R.F.A. in trying to cross the Orange River, Cape Colony, was carried away by the current. At great risk, Barrett, after swimming 100 yards, caught him and brought him out. Both men were nearly starved, having been prisoners with the Boers.

On the 29th November, 1901, a boy named Marshall fell into the river at West Looe, Cornwall. The night was dark and the depth 8 feet. Bassett, at great risk, jumped in and supported him till they were picked up by a boat. Marshall being unconscious, Police Constable J.H. Drew succeeded in restoring him

On the 15th August, 1900, a lad named Prem Dass fell down a well 35 feet deep at Hazeo, in the Punjab, India. At great personal risk Sher Baz went down and rescued him.

On the 28th July, 1901, a soldier, in trying to recover some shot duck from a dam at Onverwacht, Orange River Colony, got into difficulty, the dam being full of weeds and barbed wire. Sergt-Major M'Gregor, Royal Scots Mounted Infantry, and Private Gardiner, Royal Berks Mounted Infantry, went to his help but could not succeed in saving him, and themselves got into danger. Lieut. Beatty went in and supported M'Gregor till a line was got out and they were pulled out, while Gardiner got out unaided, the soldier being drowned.

On the 30th June, 1901, a woman threw herself into the Thames from Putney Bridge. It was 30 feet to the water, and the night dark and stormy. At great risk Beck, sprang from the bridge but she sank before he could reach her.

On the 26th February, 1901, Private Hamilton, of the Scots Greys was swept away by the current while crossing the Assegai River, South Africa. At great risk, Bickford plunged in from the bank and succeeded in saving him.

Black, G., Captain, Master of the S.S. Indianapolis  Case 31197

On the 18th February, 1901, a sailor belonging to the S.S. Indianapolis of Glasgow, fell into the river at Demerara. The depth was some 30 feet, and sharks and alligators abound. At great risk, Black sprang in and succeeded in saving the man.

On the 17th January, 1901, Private Lutner, 3rd Bn East Lancashire Regt, was bathing in a dam at Karee, Orange River Colony, and got out of his depth. Bradley, of the same Bn, at once went in and rescued him.

On the 27th February, 1901, Private Isherwood, while bathing in the same dam, also got into danger. Bradley went in and brought him out.

On the 14th March, 1901, Private Turner was bathing in the same place and got into deep water. Bradley again went in and managed to save him.

On the 13th February, 1901, a seaman accidentally fell overboard from H.M.S. Barfleur at Wusung, China. There was a strong tide running and the weather very cold. Brett and Foot jumped in, and at great risk, succeeded in saving the man.

On the 2nd September, 1900, Robt. Smith fell from a boat into 10 feet of water in the Thames at Teddington. At great risk Brice swam out from the bank and succeeded in saving him.

Brown, A.H. Private 3rd Vol Bn Lancashire Fusiliers  Case 31289

On the 27th February, 1901, Private Rogers 2nd Bn Royal Lancaster Regiment, was swept away while crossing the Buffalo River at De Jagers Drift, Transvaal, the river being in flood and 12 feet deep. At great risk, Brown, 3rd Volunteer Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, jumped in and brought him to the bank much exhausted.

On the 15th December, 1900, David Brooks fell overboard from the S.S. Gladys Royle in the Barry Dock, at Cardiff. Brown, seeing his danger, and at the risk of being struck by the moving propeller, jumped in from the quay, and was able to support him till a boat took them up.

On the 1st August, 1901, J.R. Newton was seized with cramp while bathing in the sea at Plymouth. At great risk, Bulley swam out, fully clothed, and rescued him.

On the 6th August, 1901, Leonard Uglow, while bathing at Plymouth, became exhausted, and Bulley at once went in and rescued him.

On the 22nd August, 1901, James Wright took cramp while bathing in 8 feet of water at Plymouth. Bulley jumped in and, at great risk, was able to rescue him.

Burne, Edward H. Clerk.  Case 31095

On the 4th December, 1900, a man named Kerrigan fell into the Liffey at Dublin. There was a very strong tide running at the time. Burne jumped in from the opposite side, but the current swept him away before he could reach Kerrigan, and he was taken from the river some distance lower down in an exhausted state. Two men named Boland and Dillon then went in and recovered the body of Kerrigan, who was dead.

On the 25th March, 1901, during the prevalence of a blinding snowstorm, a young woman walked over the retaining wall into the Aire at Castleford, Yorks. Oxley Burnill, who lives near, was roused from bed, and, rushing out, he ran to the place and, jumping in, succeeded, at great risk, in saving the girl.

On the 9th April, 1901, a boy named McCormick accidentally fell into the river at Oban. At great risk, Campbell, sprang in and, with considerable difficulty, was able to effect the rescue.

On the 20th July, 1901, James M'Pherson, aged 60 fell from the North Pier into the sea at Oban, the depth being 18 feet. At great risk, Campbell, jumped in and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 16th February, 1901, Walter Pogson fell through the ice on a pond at Worsley, near Manchester. Leonard Bayley, in an attempt to save him, also got into the water. At great risk, Campbell, crawled to the edge of the break and was able to save Bayley but Pogson sank and was drowned.

On the 20th December, 1900, Private Jaques of the 2nd Bn Lancashire Fusiliers, was crossing the Zandspruit River, Natal, when he was swept away by the current. At great risk, Private M. Cannon, of the same Battalion, plunged in but failed to effect the rescue, and Jaques was drowned.

On the 22nd July, 1901, a little girl fell down a well some 30 feet deep with 5 feet of water at the bottom, at Rickmansworth. At great risk, Carvey was lowered down by an old rope and succeeded in saving her.

On the 19th July, 1901, Four children, while at play on a sandbank in the Tay at Dundee, were surrounded by the incoming tide. At great risk, Chalmers swam out three times and succeeded in rescuing three of them, while David Elder managed to save the fourth.

On the 20th May, 1901, a native boatman fell from his boat into the lake at Nankatchiee, India. At great risk, Channer, went after him, but being clutched, had a hard struggle to keep him afloat till they were picked up by another boat.

On the 12th June, 1901, W.J. Gates fell from a barge into the West India Dock, striking his head and rendering himself unconscious. Clark, at great risk, jumped in from the quay and rescued him.

On the 8th June, 1901, a youth, while bathing in a clay-pit at Newton-le-Willows, stuck in the mud in 7 feet of water. Clarke, at considerable risk, jumped in fully clothed, and rescued him.

On the 23rd December, 1900, Private Williams, of the 1st Bn Royal Welsh Fusiliers, while bathing in the Mooi River, Transvaal Colony, got into deep water and sank. Clarke jumped in, and, at great risk, succeeded in rescuing him.

On the 6th August, 1901, Private Meacham, of the 18th Hussars, while watering his horse, was thrown into the Kruis River in the Northern Transvaal. At great risk, Clayton and Brown went in and were successful in saving him.

Cleverley, Harry, Constable, Metropolitan Police.  Case 31115

On the 11th January, 1901, Bertha Lawson, who had escaped from a lunatic asylum, threw herself into the Regent's Canal. The night was dark, and the depth of water 10 feet. At great risk, Cleverley Jumped in and after a hard struggle succeeded in saving her.

On the 31st December, 1900, four persons with a horse and cart were swept from the road at Wakerley, Northampton, by the floods. They were carried a distance of 30 yards, the current being strong. Two persons were got out without much difficulty, but the third man, named Cox was only rescued at great risk by Harry Clifton, who was of the party.

On the 28th May, 1901, J. Beaumont, Chief Stoker, H.M.S. Snapper, fell into the harbour at Granton, the depth being 18 feet. At great risk, Cotter plunged in and, after diving, found the man and rescued him.

On the 3rd March, 1901, Private McEvoy, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, got into deep water while bathing in a dam at Fort Harlech, South Africa. At great risk, Cox jumped in, and, after diving three times, succeeded in saving him.

On the 29th July, 1901, two boys, while bathing in the Thames at Greenwich, were carried out into 14 feet of water. Cramp, at great risk, swam out and brought them in.

On the 26th June, 1900, a lad named Williams, while bathing at Chefoo, North China, was carried out into deep water by the current. At great risk, Cranston, jumped in from a boat and landed him in an unconscious state.

On the 28th December, 1900, C.H. Pittwood, Petty Officer, H.M.S. Hood, fell into the sea at Milford Haven. There was a high wind, the water being very cold and rough. At great risk Crocker jumped from the ship and caught Pittwood, but owing to the heavy sea could not retain his hold, and he was drowned.

On the 19th February, 1901, a youth named Gray fell through the ice on a pond at Romsbottom, Lancashire, the depth of the water being 12 feet. At great risk Crossley went to his help, when the ice again broke and he also fell in. Barrett then went out, and, with the help of a ladder, succeeded in saving both.

On the 4th November, 1901, James Cox, aged 60, a Cabman, owing to a dense fog, walked over the quay into the dock basin at Chatham. At great risk, Crozier jumped in and kept him afloat till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 4th August, 1901, Edwin Turner was rendered unconscious by an escape of gas in an excavation in Vittoria Street, Birmingham. At great risk, Daniels, pulled him out, and thereafter restored him to consciousness.

On the 21st August, 1901, a youth named Booker fell from a plank into the Medway at Gillingham, the depth being 12 feet with an ebb tide. At great risk, Darby jumped in, caught the lad, and swam with him to the steps.

On the 4th July, 1901, James Davies, while bathing in the Wye at Symonds Yat, Monmouthshire, got into 15 feet of water and sank. At great risk, Day, went in but was unable to save him and nearly lost his own life, Davies being drowned.

On the 31st July, 1901, an unknown boy got out of his depth while bathing at Dublin. Devlin, at great risk, jumped in and, after a struggle, succeeded in saving him.

On the 1st August, 1901, Golia, a convict, owing to the breaking of a rope, fell into the sea at Port Blair, Andaman Islands. At great risk, Wahab Din swam out and, after a struggle, succeeded in saving him.

On the 22nd June, 1901, a boy accidentally fell into the canal at Rickmansworth. The canal is 35 feet wide and 9 feet deep. At great risk Dolleymore ran some distance, and jumping in, swam across the canal and saved the lad.

On the 24th July, 1901, a woman in an attempt at suicide threw herself into the Ouseburn at Newcastle. Drane, and Phillip Renforth both went in but Renforth failed to save the woman, Drane, then, at great risk, effecting her rescue.

On the 28th July, 1901, T. Reynolds, who could not swim, was carried out some 90 yards into 12 feet of water, while bathing at Sea View, Isle of Wight. There was a strong tide, and it was dark at the time. Sir James Duke, Bart, at great risk, swam out and succeeded in effecting the rescue.

On the 15th March, 1901, Private Marsh, 2nd Vol Bn Royal West Surrey Regiment, took cramp while bathing in the Wilge River, Orange River Colony. At great risk, Eade, of the same Bn, jumped in and succeeded in effecting his rescue.

On the 30th July, 1901, Samuel Clare accidentally fell into the river Dane at Northwich while fishing, there being a depth of 12 to 15 feet and no means of landing. Edge, at great risk, jumped in and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 9th August, 1901, a lad named Humphreys got into difficulty while bathing in the Severn at Newtown. Seeing his danger, Edwards, jumped in and, at great risk, succeeded in saving him.

Egan, Arthur, aged 17, a British subject  Case 31743

In August, 1901, a woman named Osgood was bathing in Lake Michigan at Chicago when she got caught in the undercurrent and was being carried away. Arthur Egan jumped in, and after a struggle, succeeded in rescuing her. During the last four years Egan has saved twenty-three lives.

On the 9th September, 1901, a little girl fell into the canal lock at Ardrishaig, there being a great rush of water owing to the sluices being open. Ellard, at great risk, jumped in and supported her till they were assisted to land.

On the 1st May, 1901, a boy accidentally fell into the Trent at Burton. Edwin Otley tried to save him, but got into difficulty. There was a strong current, and the depth 14 to 16 feet. At great risk, Emery plunged in and was able to rescue both.

On the 6th June, 1901, Private, White, of the Border Regiment, while bathing in the river at Barrielly, India, got into deep and weedy water and sank. Knowing the risk, Private G. Farnall attempted to rescue him, but failed although he dived several times.

Farquharson, W., Private, Royal Army Medical Corps  Case 31417

On the 8th July, 1901, Frank Horne was bathing in the Lee at Cork, when he got into deep water and sank. At great risk, Farquharson, swam out and rescued him in an unconscious state. Private Glasson, Royal Army Medical Corps, and Lance-Corporal Cawthorn, King's Royal Rifles, used treatment and were able to restore him to consciousness.

On the 16th September, 1901, Private Hambrook, R.M.L.I., accidentally fell into the St Lawrence off Quebec, the depth being 12 fathoms, and a three-knot tide running. Feilmann, at great risk, jumped in caught the man, and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 3rd September, 1901, Alice Perry, while bathing at Kingstown, co. Dublin, was carried out 50 yards from shore, the sea being very rough. At great risk, Captain Fergusson, Highland Light Infantry, swam out and, succeeded in saving her.

On the 18th July, 1901, three men named Firth, Beard, and Neville, were bathing in the Calder at Whitwood, Normanton, when Beard and Neville got out into deep water and called for help. Firth, at great risk, went to their assistance and succeeded in saving Beard, but Neville was drowned.

On the 12th November, 1901, a woman and her four little children were surrounded by a flood in their cottage about 2 miles from Mountmellick, Queen's County. The depth over this distance varied from 1 to 5 feet, with a strong current at certain places. At great risk, the five men succeeded in traversing the distance and saving the family, there being 5 feet of water in the house when they were rescued.

At 5 a.m. on the 9th March, 1901, while a party of the 12th Royal Lancers were crossing the Assegai River, South Africa, Trooper Sharland was swept away by the current, and became parted from his horse. At great risk Fletcher and Donald went in, and succeeded in saving him in an unconscious state.

On the 29th May, 1901, a woman, in an attempt at suicide, threw herself into the Thames at East Greenwich, there being a strong tide running at the time. At great risk, Friend, jumped in and, with considerable difficulty, succeeded in saving her.

On the 22nd June, 1901, Max Harris, in an attempt at suicide, threw himself into the Liffey at Dublin. James Gaffney, Oliver St. John Gogarty, and J. Kirwan jumped in, and together they were able to rescue him.

On the 1st May, 1901, a youth named Cotter fell into a timber pond at Plumstead, there being a depth of 10 feet. At great risk Garner, jumped in and was successful in saving him.

On the 8th June, 1901, Henry Dighton, while bathing in the Ouse at Godmanchester, got into 12 feet of water. Henry Gibbins, at great risk, swam to where he was and brought him to the bank. Gibbins is only 11 years of age and a small boy

On the 2nd August, 1901, Miss F. Atkinson was bathing in the sea at Seaton Sluice, Northumberland, when the current carried her out 60 yards into deep water. Gibbon, at great risk, swam out, but could not bring her in, and she sank and was drowned.

On the 18th December, 1900, J.S. Cook, Stoker, accidentally fell overboard in the Barnpool, Plymouth. There was a strong ebb tide running, and very dark at the time. Glasson jumped in from the ship, but it was too late, as Cook sank before being reached.

On the 10th February, 1901, two youths named Heywood and Hallows, fell through the ice into 18 feet of water in a pond at Little Lever, near Bolton. At great risk, Greenhalgh tried to reach them, but failed. Barlow then went in, and was successful in saving the lads, but died shortly after from the effects of his immersion.

On the 26th February, 1901, Private H. Ottley, 2nd Bn. fell into the harbour at Rangoon. At great risk, Gunn jumped in, and after a struggle, was able to rescue him

On the 1st September, 1901, a small boat was capsized alongside H.M.S. GANGES in the Stour at Harwich, the occupant, a man named Savage, being thrown into the water. The night was dark, and the tide strong. Haines, at great risk, jumped in from the ship and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 30th July, 1901, N.J. Morrison accidentally fell overboard from the steamer Kaslo in Kootenay Lake, British Columbia. At great risk, Hall jumped in from the wharf, under which both were sucked, but, by the use of a pole, were got out and landed in safety.

On the 15th September, 1901, shortly after midnight, an insane man threw himself into the canal at Luddenden Foot, Yorkshire. At great risk, Hanson and Milne, went in and, after a hard struggle in the darkness, succeeded in effecting his rescue.

On the 1st August, 1901, a man named Harris, while asleep on the pier at Morecambe, rolled over into the sea, 28 feet below. At great risk, Hart jumped in and, having found Harris, placed a lifebuoy round him, by which he was drawn up, Hart himself then swimming to the landing ladder 50 yards distant.

On the 3rd September, 1901, Private M. Carr, 2nd Bn Scots Guards, was swept away while bathing in the Mooi River, Potchefstroom, South Africa. Henderson jumped in and succeeded in saving him.

At daybreak on the 21st February, 1901, two men were in an ambulance wagon crossing the Pongola River in the Transvaal when the wagon stuck fast, the river being in a state of flood with a very strong current. Holland, Moore and Kirby swam out and, at great risk, were able to rescue both men.

On 23rd June, 1901, while a youth named Griffiths was bathing in the Monnow at Monmouth he got into deep water and sank. Hopkins, at great risk, plunged in and succeeded in effecting his rescue.

On the 8th February, 1901, a soldier, while bathing in the river at Tafelburg, Cape Colony, was carried away by the current. At great risk, Houghton, swam out and succeeded in effecting his rescue.

On the 27th June, 1901, Alice M. and Irene Gibbons, aged 11 and 13, were bathing in the sea at Shanganah, co. Dublin, when they got into deep water. Their governess, Miss F.S.A. Schmerse, went to their help, but sank and was drowned. After rescuing Irene, James Kavanagh went in and got Alice and the body of Miss Schmerse out, but all efforts at restoration failed.

At 1.15 a.m. on the 15th December, 1900, a woman named Magee, in the darkness, got into a deep and dangerous dam at Clonard, Belfast. Her cries were heard by Rev. On the 31st October, 1901, a coal trimmer, in an attempt at suicide, threw himself overboard from the S.S. Clan Fraser, in the Red Sea, 50 miles north-west of Jebel Tier Island. Well knowing the danger, Pitt went to his assistance but could not save him and also got into danger. Williams then went in and succeeded in rescuing Pitt, but Kennard was carried away and drowned.

On the 6th June, 1901, C.D Pomfret and E.J. Horwood were out in a small boat which capsized about one and a half miles from shore, there being a strong east wind and a rough sea. Horwood being unable to swim, Pomfret got him to lay hold of the waterlogged boat, and he then towed both to shore, which he reached in an exhausted state.

On the 24th April, 1901, a boat with four persons on board was carried over the weir in the Avon at Bathampton. Roberts, who was in another boat, jumped in and, at great risk, rescued two persons and tried to save a third, but did not succeed. Percival C. Cottle, who was one of the party, also tried to save Mary J.C. Davison, who was unfortunately drowned.

On the 23rd September, 1900, Oomrao Singh and Jummoo went into a tank at Unkareddypulley, India, to recover some shot duck when Jummoo became stuck fast in the weeds. Oomrao Singh tried to save him but failed. Knowing the risk, Lieutenant A.N.D. Fagan, Hyderabad Lancers, went in to try and save him but also got caught in the weeds. Captain R.W. Burton of the Hyderabad Infantry plunged in to try and rescue Fagan, but was unequal to the task, and Lieutenant Fagan and Jummoo sank and were drowned.

John Harris then went down and succeeded in rescuing Smoker. Richard Rice then entered the tank, and brought up Carr and Thornton, but they were dead.

On the 8th June, 1901, a little boy fell into a pond at Lewes, Sussex. Sydney, at great risk, jumped in and succeeded in saving him.

On the 21st February, 1901, two youths named Arnold fell through the ice at Lowton St. Mary's, Lancashire. At great risk, Talbot, who is unable to swim, went in and, with much difficulty, rescued both lads

On the 15th February, 1901, four children fell through the ice on the Rectory pond at Bromesberrow, Herefordshire. At great risk, Talbot went to their assistance, and, with the aid of a ladder, was able to effect their rescue.

On the 12th February, 1900, Private Cusack, King's Own Scottish Borderers, while bathing in the Riet River, Orange River Colony, got into difficulty fifteen yards from the bank, Taylor, at great risk, plunged in and brought him within five yards of the bank, when he became exhausted and sank. Simpson then went in, and at great risk, rescued Taylor, Cusack then being rescued from the bank.

On the 9th March, 1901 a man named Mackender fell overboard from the transport Tagus at St Vincent. The distance from shore was one mile; it was dark at the time, and the place is frequented by sharks. Taylor, who was on board on his way to the Cape, at great risk, sprang overboard and rescued him.

On the 31st October, 1901, a named Anderson was accidentally dragged from a steam cutter by a rope from H.M.S. Pactolus, off Yarmouth, Isle of Wight. There was an easterly gale blowing with a choppy sea. At great risk, Lieut. Tennyson jumped from the ship but was swept away before reaching Anderson, and was picked up by a boat some distance off. Meanwhile Anderson was hauled on board the ship.

On the 21st February, 1901, two soldiers with a native were in a wagon which was capsized in a dip in the road between the Modder River and Jacobsdal, South Africa. The dip was some 30 yards wide with 10 feet of water. At great risk, Tomlinson went to their help and rescued the soldiers. The native saved himself.

On the 14th February, 1901, a young lady named Betts was bathing in a pool at the bottom of the rocks at Funchal, Madeira, when a huge roller swept her out into deep water. Travers, was called from her bed, and running down she at once plunged in and, at great risk, was able to support the drowning girl till she was picked up by a boat.

On the 16th August, 1901, a boy fell into the harbour at Hayle, Cornwall, and sank in 12 feet of very foul water 5 yards from the Quay. At great risk, Trevaskis dived in three times, but could not find him, and he was drowned.

On the 25th June, 1901, a lad fell into the harbour at Brixham. At great risk, Tribble, plunged in from the quay, a height of 12 feet, and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 26th November, 1900, Trooper Davidson, Brabant's Horse, sank while bathing in the Mooi River, Transvaal Colony. At great risk, Tubbs and Newnes, dived in and were able to rescue him.

Tucker, Albert J.  Case 31536

On the 18th July, 1901, three men were bathing from the beach at Woolacombe, North Devon, when one of them named Howell called for help. His friends, named Wood and Spiers, went to his aid, but also got into danger. At great risk, owing to the heavy sea running, Tucker swam out and rescued Spiers in an exhausted state. Howell managed to get in without help, while Wood was drowned.

On the 3rd August, 1901, a boat capsized near the pier at the Mumbles. The night being dark and the ebb tide strong, J. Gammon, the occupant, was in great danger of drowning when Twomey jumped in and was successful, in saving him.

On the 28th June, 1901, a child fell into the Liffey at Dublin, the water at the time being very foul. At great risk, Tyre jumped in from a height of 20 feet, caught the boy, and managed to save him.

Vernau, Albert, Thames Steamboat Mermaid  Case 31374

On the 27th June, 1901, a child fell overboard from the Thames Steamboat Mermaid off Gravesend. At great risk, Vernau, one of the crew, jumped from the steamer and managed to support the lad till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 26th April, 1901, Harry Houchin, Labourer, while at work, accidentally fell into the dock at Barrow, there being a depth of 23 feet with balks of floating timber. At great risk, Warren jumped in and after being clutched, succeeded in saving him.

On the 31st January, 1901, Albert Cooke in an attempt at suicide, threw himself into the Avon at Evesham, Worcestershire. At great risk Webb jumped in and brought him out in an unconscious state. Sergeant J.H. Yarnold, Worcestershire Constabulary, succeeded in restoring him.

On the 29th August, 1901, a Seaman, belonging to H.M.S. Archer was thrown into the harbour at Wellington, New Zealand, through the capsizing of a boat. At great risk, Whipp jumped in and supported him till they were picked up.

On the 16th July, 1901, Patrick Griffin, while bathing from the dangerous rocks at Kilkee, got into difficulty, the depth at the place being 15 feet. At great risk, Whitaker, swam out, fully clothed, and was successful in saving him.

On the 3rd September, 1901, W. Morris, in trying to jump on board the S.S. Empress at Calstock, Devon, fell into the Tamar, and was carried under the paddle-wheel. At great personal risk, Captain Whitburn jumped in and succeeded in saving him.

In August, 1900, a man belonging to the 1st Chinese Regiment, fell from a boat into the Peiho at Tientsin. There was a strong current, and the night dark. At great risk, Whittaker jumped in and effected the rescue.

On the 20th July, 1901, Dorothy Peck fell into the sea at Morecombe, and was carried out 60 yards by the wind and tide. Wilding, at great risk, swam out and succeeded in saving her.

On the 8th January, 1901, three boys were sliding on the ice on the canal at Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, when a breakage took place and all fell through into deep water. At great risk, Williams went in and rescued two of the boys, and again going in he succeeded in saving the third lad.

On the 8th July, 1901, Norman Adams, aged 6, while at play, fell into the Tyne at Hebburn, the depth being 15 feet with a strong current. At great risk, Wilson, jumped in and succeeded in saving him.

On the 3rd January, 1901, a seaman accidentally fell overboard in the river at Shanghai, China. The depth is some 40 feet, with dangerous eddies. At great risk Youel sprang after him, and was able to support him till they were picked up by a boat.
