On the 23^rd August 1910, William Hoare, aged 72, fell into the Lee at Cork. Ahern at once plunged in from the opposite side, swam across and caught him, further help being then given in getting them out, but Hoare was dead.

On the 11^th June 1910, a boy named Wake, who could not swim, got out into deep water while bathing in the Wharfe at Wetherby. Miss Allen jumped in from a boat and swam with him to the bank.

On the 24^th June 1910, a boy got into difficulty while bathing in the Thames at Reading. Appleton and Holloway plunged in and succeeded in saving him.

On the 4^th August 1910, T.Snelling was in a boat on the Thames, and was run down by the SS Eagle. Baily jumped from the vessel and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 13^th October 1910, a man who was mad with drink threw himself into the Surrey Canal, Camberwell. Baldwin went in, and after a hard struggle succeeded in saving him.

On the 1^st June 1910, two youths fell into the Thames at Bermondsey, there being a depth of 12 feet. Bartlett dived in and rescued them.

On the 2^nd August 1910, Bert Taylor accidentally fell into the harbour at Gorleston, the depth being 18 feet. Bensley plunged in, and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 13^th March 1910, a woman, while crossing the Walney Channel, Barrow, on a plank, was swept off 50 yards from the shore, the depth being 10 feet with a strong tide. Benson swam out and was successful in saving her.

On the 20^th May 1910, two girls were thrown into the Trent at Burton by the capsizing of a boat, the water being deep and the current strong. Bernard went in and in the end succeeded in saving both.

On the 3^rd September 1910, two men were bathing in the Erme at Pamflete and were carried away by the tide, the place being very dangerous. Bethell plunged in and at great risk attempted to save them, but failed.

On the 24^th December1909, a man fell into the basin at Exeter, the depth being 15 feet, no means of getting out, and a dense fog at the time. Breche plunged in, but was unable to find him and he was drowned.

On the 14^th July 1909, submarine C11 was run down by a steamer in the North Sea, throwing all the crew into the water, where Lieutenant Watkins was soon in difficulty. Brodie at once went to his help, and supported him till they were picked up by submarine C12.

On the 19^th September 1910, F.J.Aylward, in trying to pass from the quay to the transport Soudan by means of a rope, fell into the harbour at Alexandria. Burt plunged in, but was unable to effect the rescue.

On the 4^th August 1910, a youth fell into the Lee at Cork, the depth being 18 feet with a strong stream running. Cahill plunged in, and after a swim of 80 yards caught him and brought him to land.

On the 16^th November 1909, Alexander McRae was skating on the river at Revelstoke, British Columbia, and fell through the ice into 15 feet of water. Calder and Hedstrom crawled out on the ice and at great risk got him out.

On the 28^th July 1909, a man fell into the harbour at Wei-Hai-Wei between HMS King Alfred and a collier. Carter and Copestake went in, but after diving failed to find him.

On the 9^th October 1908, a man, while bathing in the sea at Port Elizabeth, was carried away by the current, but succeeded in clinging to a wire rope placed a long way out for safety. Cells swam out and with much difficulty brought him in.

On the 5^th July 1910, Private E.Kale, of the West African Frontier Force, fell into the Kaduna river, Northern Nigeria, the depth being 25 feet with a strong current. Chicogo plunged in and succeeded in bringing him out.

On the 5^th August 1910, a youth who could not swim fell from a raft into 12 feet of water in the Avon at Evesham. Cook plunged in and rescued him.

On the 2^nd May 1910, two children fell into the canal at Dudley Port. Corbett ran to the place, and, jumping in, was able to save both.

On the 23^rd April 1910, a woman fell from a boat into the Irrawaddy at Bhamo, deep water with a strong current. Davies jumped in and caught her, and they were got out with a line.

On the 11^th January 1910, a seaman was accidentally thrown into the sea off Tripoli owing to the capsizing of a boiler which was being landed. Well knowing the danger of sharks, Davis jumped in and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 26^th May 1910, C.E.Henderson fell overboard from submarine C19 in the Firth of Tay. Denchfield went in, but was unable to effect the rescue.

On the 1^st March 1910, James Moore, in an attempt at suicide, threw himself into the Thames at Kingston, the river being in flood and 11 feet deep. Deniham plunged in, and after a struggle managed to save him.

On the 4^th June 1910, a man fell overboard from a lighter in the outer roads at Pernambuco, the sea being rough and infested with sharks. Dominy jumped in and supported him until they were picked up.

On the 3^rd July 1910, two men named Donaldson were bathing in the Lagan at Belfast, the place being 14 feet deep and very treacherous. Their brother, Robert Donaldson, went in to try and save them, but failed, and both were drowned.

On the 26^th May 1910, E.J.White fell from a staging into the East India Dock, Blackwall, the depth being 20 feet and the water foul. Eary plunged in from a height of 15 feet and succeeded in saving him.

On the 17^th August 1910, two youths named Bowen, while bathing in the sea at Burry Port, were swept out into 18 to 20 feet of water. Edmunds swam out and rescued the elder, the younger being drowned.

On the 29^th September 1910, a woman threw herself into the Thames at Charing Cross, the depth being 14 to 15 feet and the tide running strong. Edwards plunged in and caught her, but she struggled so much he could not retain his hold, and she was drowned.

On the 29^th December 1909, a man, while bathing in the Kubusie river, Cape Colony, was swept away by a strong current. Ellis plunged in and rescued him.

On the 22^nd June 1910, a boy named Gregory, while bathing in the Thames at Lambeth, was carried away by the tide. Elverson swam out but failed to reach Gregory, who sank and was drowned.

On the 9^th June 1910, a child fell into the Thames at Pimlico, the depth being 9 feet with a fast tide. Emler went in and effected the rescue.

On the 26^th September 1909, George Povey, while suffering from a fit, jumped overboard from his ship in Kamaran Bay, Red Sea, the place being infested with sharks. Field at once went after him and was successful in saving him.

On the 1^st November 1910, a woman, who had first cut her throat, threw herself into the dock entrance at Strood. Finnis plunged in and supported her till they were got out with a ladder.

On the 7^th June 1910, a child accidentally fell from a houseboat into the harbour at Hong Kong, there being a strong tide running. Gibson plunged in, swam about 30 feet, and got her back to the boat, where she was taken on board.

On the 2^nd August 1910, George Parker, in going on board his vessel, fell into the dock at Buenos Aires, the water being very foul. Greenidge plunged in, and after diving succeeded in saving him.

On the 11^th April 1910, a man named Harwood fell overboard from HMS Grafton in the harbour at Portsmouth and was being carried away by the strong tide. Hood jumped in from a height of 16 feet and was successful in saving him.

On the 2^nd January 1910, a woman accidentally fell down a well at Bolarum, India, the well being 9 feet in diameter and 35 feet deep with 12 feet of water in it. Husain went down with a rope and effected her rescue.

On the 26^th April 1910, Thomas Clark went down to a flushing chamber in the sewer at Southall and was overcome by foul gas. The chamber is 4 feet square and 14 feet below the surface. Ives, Pippett, Cambers, Smokham and Willis went down one after the other to try and rescue him but failed, his body being got out by Willis.

On the 21^st July 1910, a man accidentally fell overboard from HMS Odin in the Persian Gulf, there being sharks in the locality. Jackson jumped in and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 8^th August 1910, a man in some way fell into the Empress Dock, Southampton. Jeffrey and Reeve went in, and were successful in saving him.

On the 12^th June 1910, a man fell into the harbour at Savona, Italy, between a ship and the quay wall. Jones went in, and after a hard struggle succeeded in saving him.

On the 12^th August 1910, a man, in an attempt at suicide, threw himself into the Thames from the Victoria Embankment. Jones plunged in and succeeded in landing him at the steps.

On the 21^st May 1910, a woman, in an attempt at suicide, threw herself into the Lea Cut at Hackney, there being a depth of 10 feet. Judd ran out from his house and jumping in succeeded in saving her.

On the 25^th June 1910, nine persons were on an old boat which sank about 100 yards out on the Croy shore, Ayrshire. The Rev. Kellie, Fitzsimmons and Anderson swam out and succeeded in saving four of them, the other five being drowned.

On the 26^th January 1910, Sepoy M.Khan of the 56^th Punjabi Rifles, went into a tank at Garispur, India, to recover a shot duck and got into difficulties 100 yards out in deep water. Khan and Sher went in to his help, but were unable to rescue him and he was drowned

On the 13^th February 1910, a man, in trying to go on board his ship, fell into the harbour at New York, the night being dark, with 14° of frost and the harbour full of drift ice. Kirkwood jumped in, and having caught the man they were got out with a rope.

On the 26^th May 1910, Miss A.Casserley, while bathing in the sea at Garrettstown, was carried away by the tide. Miss Lindsay went to her help, but was also carried away, and was picked up half a mile from the shore, Miss Casserley being drowned.

On the 31^st May 1910, a boat with four men on board was upset about 100 yards from Bird Island in Strangford Lough. M’Connell and another man swam to the island, when M’Connell undressed, and swimming out to the boat, he towed it with the two men clinging to it back to the island.

On the 14^th September 1910, a child fell into the sea at Fladda, Sound of Scarba, and was carried out into 12 feet of water, the place being very dangerous. Macauley was called from his bed, and plunging in was successful in saving him.

On the 23^rd June 1910, a boy named Morrison, while bathing in the sea at Uig, was carried away by the strong current. Maclennan swam out and succeeded in bringing him to the shore.

On the 29^th March 1910, a boy, while at play, fell into the canal lock at Limerick. Madden jumped in and swam with him 60 yards and got him out.

On the 5^th August 1910, two youths were in a boat which capsized in the Firth of Clyde off Hunter’s Quay, one of them named Nelson being under the sail. His companion, Martin, dived down and liberated him, and then kept him afloat till they were picked up.

On the 3^rd August 1910, a lad named Thornton fell into the London Dock, the depth being 28 feet. McCarthy plunged in and was successful in saving him.

On the 6^th August 1909, a steamer had gone ashore at Duiker Point, Cape Colony, there being a heavy surf breaking on the rocks. Messina rushed into the sea and got hold of a line which was thrown from the wreck by which two men were rescued.

On the 2^nd August 1910, a little boy fell into the Trent at East Stockwith. Metcalf, who cannot swim, went in and got him out.

On the 19^th July 1910, G.A.Bruce fell from the breakwater into the Tyne at South Shields. Meyer plunged in fully clothed and rescued him.

On the 21^st July 1910, Mrs E.F.Goodwin was bathing in sea at Widenham, Natal, and was carried away by the current. Millar swam out, and succeeded in bringing her to shore in an unconscious state.

On the 13^th June 1910, a youth, while bathing in the Wear at Chester-le-Street, got into a whirlpool 25 feet deep and sank. Miller went in, and after diving four times got him up, but he was dead.

On the 26^th March 1910, a lady and a gentleman accidentally fell into the river at Rangoon, there being a very strong tide running. Milne, chief officer of the SS Itinda, plunged in and rescued both.

On the 29^th May 1909, a man fell into the Nile at Mongalla, there being strong under-currents and danger from crocodiles. Mohammed plunged in, and after a hard struggle succeeded in saving him.

On the 25^th February 1910, a youth fell from the rigging of his ship into the Hunter river at Newcastle, New South Wales, the depth being 30 feet. Moran went in and succeeded in saving him.

On the 24^th June1910, Peter Miller and J.Marguson fell from a staging into the Neva at St. Petersburg, the depth being 27 feet with a 2-knot tide. More plunged in and rescued him.

On the 29^th July 1910, a boy accidentally fell into the sea from a boat slip at Courtmacsherry. Murphy plunged in and rescued him.

On the 2^nd September 1910, a man named Law fell into the Granville Dock, Dover, the depth being 20 feet and the place badly lighted. Newton plunged in, and kept him afloat till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 20^th June 1909, a man fell into the harbour at Moulmein, the depth being 20 to 30 feet, the night being dark and wet with a strong ebb tide. Nokannah plunged in and swam with him to a mooring chain whence they were taken by a boat.

On the 6^th December 1909, a man rode his horse into a blind well at Jubbulpore, India, the depth of water being 9 feet and the depth to the water 20 feet. Pease-Watkin was lowered down by a rope and succeeded in saving the man.

On the 31^st October 1909, W.Bolton was going down the shaft at Newbiggin Colliery when the chain broke, and he fell 50 feet into 5 feet of water at the bottom. Pebbles went down by the pump chain and steam pipe and supported him till further help came and he was got out.

On the 15^th June 1910, a youth fell overboard from a fishing boat in the Medway, near Rochester. His father, Pocock jumped after him, but was unable to keep him afloat, and he was drowned.

On the 19^th November 1909, two men were at work at a depth of 70 yards in a new shaft at the Llanover Pit, Argoed, Mon., when one of them slipped from the platform and fell into 15 feet of water below. His companion, Pugh, at once jumped down and kept him afloat till further help came and they were got out.

On the 10^th September 1909, a man threw himself down a well 35 feet deep in the hospital compound at Fyzabad, India. Ram jumped down and supported him for 20 minutes, when they were got out.

On the 21^st August 1910, a gunner of the RGA accidentally fell into the harbour at Cork, the night being dark. Ratcliff jumped in and supported him till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 20^th April 1910, Florence Kelly accidentally fell into the Langton Dock Basin, Liverpool, there being a depth of 19 feet. Richter plunged in and swam with her to the landing, a distance of 40 yards.

On the 10^th July 1910, a motorboat, with the Duke of Westminster on board, was upset off Cowes, Isle of Wight. Robins, who was on board, swam to his help, and kept him afloat till they were picked up by a launch

On the 15^th May 1910, two boys accidentally fell into the tidal dock at Gillingham, the depth being about 10 feet. Robinson went in and brought them out one at a time.

On the 12^th August 1910, W.Rixom tripped and fell into the Graving Dock at Birkenhead, injuring his leg in the fall. Rowlands and Williams went in and between them succeeded in saving him.

On the 23^rd January 1910, a little boy accidentally fell into the river at Port Essinton, British Columbia. Mrs Rudge went in and was successful in saving him.

On the 14^th January 1910, a seaman, whilst hoisting in the ladder, fell overboard from HMS Hindustan at Spithead, the ship being at anchor at the time. Scott jumped overboard and got him to the ship’s side, when he was taken on board.

On the 30^th January 1910, a boy fell through the ice on the canal at Newcastle-under-Lyme, the depth being 6 to 7 feet. Scott jumped in, and having caught him broke his way to the bank.

On the 3^rd March 1910, Indar Singh fell into the Zambezi river from a barge and was being carried away by the current. Parabha Singh swam after him and kept him afloat till they were picked up.

On the 16^th October 1910, A.E.Brown, A.B., HMS Africa, fell from the picket boat at sea off Portland, the night being dark. Smith jumped after him and kept him afloat till they were picked up.

On the 26^th May 1910, A.E.Rudge, while fishing in the Severn at Penton, was caught by the rising tide. His son, aged 11, went out to him, but could do nothing. Smith then went out and succeeded in saving both.

On the 10^th July 1910, John Farrell, while bathing in a pond at Maryborough, took cramp 30 yards from the side in 20 feet of water. Staines plunged in and rescued him in an unconscious state.

On the 29^th September 1910, the SS Lydia was wrecked in the Haitan Straits, China, some eighteen persons being in danger, there being a gale blowing with heavy sea. Sutherland of the SS Haichow, which was standing by, and Wild of the SS Lydia went over with lines and reached a boat, after which all were picked up.

On the 18^th July 1910, a boat with four persons on board was capsized about 400 yards from shore at Southsea. Swain supported the boy for some time, when they were picked up, the other two being drowned.

On the 14^th October 1910, a dredger capsized in the Admiralty Dock, Dover, a man named Kain being shut up in the stoke-hole. A hole was cut in the side of the dredger, through which Taylor was lowered, and he succeeded in saving Kain.

On the 9^th April 1910, a boy fell overboard from the Training Ship Clio in the Menai Straits at Bangor, the tide being strong and the weather cold. Tremayne at once jumped after him and kept him afloat till they were picked up by a boat.

On the 5^th March 1910, a seaman fell overboard from the cutter Whimbril off Kunari Point in the Persian Gulf, the night being dark and the sea rough. Ward plunged in and kept him afloat till they were picked up.

On the 24^th December 1909, a man walked over the quay into the dock at Southampton, the depth being 38 feet and the night dark. Ward jumped in and supported him till they were got out with a crane sling.

On the 15^th November 1910, a young woman, in an attempt at suicide, threw herself into the Thames from Putney Bridge. Lord Wellesley swam out 40 yards in 15 feet of water, and was successful in saving her.

On the 26^th April 1910, a lad named Pirie fell into the harbour at Macduff and sank under a vessel which was being berthed. West dived in and at great risk succeeded in saving the boy.

On the 1^st June 1910, a crane on which C.S.Johnston was at work fell over in the harbour at Workington, pinning him down with the tide rising fast. Whittaker and Quayle went in and between them managed to release him and get him out, but he died two days later.
