QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information
In regards to the HND in Applied Biology; having finished my A’levels, I was unsure whether or not I should commit     myself to such a specialist subject as Genetics, and so I started a HND at Sheffield. After the first year, however, having done some degree level genetics, I decided to transfer to Genetics, and was accepted onto a BSc. Genetics (Hons) at Leeds.
My grades in my first year a Leeds, (see above) where high enough to win one of the positions available for an exchange to McMaster University in Canada. Whilst there, I convinced them to let me do a final year project. I did this under Jack Gauldie, as my primary supervisor, and Frank Graham as my secondary supervisor. It was laid out like an M.Sc.; first you do a proposed research plan, and defend it, then you do the lab work, attending all lab meetings, etc… I had to write a paper in publishable format, and do a poster and a 20 minutes defence at the end with upto 40 minutes of questions. The work I did was part of a PhD student's project, and so I will be the secondary author on his papers. And anyone who uses the virus I made, Ad5E1IL-6, will acknowledge my contribution.
Last summer I finished my final year project at Leeds under Dr. J.F.J. Morrison, in the Dept of Molecular Medicine, at St. James Hospital (otherwise known as “Jimmies” on TV).  I was researching a project, trying to prove a connection between the cytokine TNF and asthma. Where I finished, a PhD student has taken over.  My final BSc marks was slightly lower than was predicted, and so I decided to better myself by trying my hand at computers for a year.
I have just finished doing a postgraduate degree in Computer Science ( officially titled 'Software System Technology') at Sheffield University.  While there I was elected staff-student representative for three positions: my course, my department, and the faculty of pure science.  I built three web sites, two for the University (   http://www.dcs.shef.ac.uk/~m7tdl/ is the course page I built, and a union rep web page), and I have my own private site ( http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~tdl/  ) and have built a MUD web site ( http://vampyre.acc.uri.edu/~mudlord/index.htm ).  I intend improving these sites with some Java code in the near future.
