Academic
Committee

........Academic
Committee is a standing Committee within the Union's democratic

.......structure, which
means it has full responsibility for all our work on academic matters.

It is made up of eight Faculty
Representatives, elected by the students in their faculty to serve on thecommittee
and as members of the University Senate (the highest decision making body).
There are also mature postgraduate and international student representatives.
The committee works with the Academic & Welfare Secretary to co-ordinate
and support student academic representation. It also keeps students
informed of academic issues and develops student responses to these.
..
Initiatives, such as the many academic surveys conducted by the union,
are formulated and produced by the Academic Committee. They will
assess the results of the surveys and pass on any useful information to
student reps through Education Matters, Faculty Forums, Academic Council
or another method. This can be used by student course reps and the
Union to lobby for change and improvement. As members of the senate,
faculty reps also play a large part in influencing University policy.
This year Academic Committee's priority research and campaigns will focus
on the Dearing Report and the University review of modularisation and semesterisation.
..
Academic Committee meets about
every 3-4 weeks to discuss academic issues and co-ordinate campaigns across
the University. All student course reps are welcome to attend and
contribute. Keep your eye on What's On or check the Sabbatical Office
for the dates of meetings
