The
Union
The Union aims to support all
student representatives, including faculty and divisional representatives,
postgraduate and undergraduate students in departments.
Each faculty has a representative
who sits on the Union's Academic Committee as well as postgraduate rep,
and there are divisional representatives who sit on the Union's Postgraduate
committee, who will be able to assist you with and queries or divisional
level problems that may crop up. The academic and Welfare Secretary
can provide advice on how to approach issues within your department, and
might be able to assist you if there is a problem you cannot resolve by
yourself. The Student Advice Centre also provides essential advice
and support. The Centre provides advice and information to all students
on issues such as housing, finance and academic problems. Specialist
help for student reps is provided by Richard Eastall, the Unions Education
and welfare Manager who is located in the Student Advice Centre.
..
Student Rep training is also
provided by the Union which aims to equip all student reps with the necessary
knowledge and skills to become effective representatives. The new
academic year also sees the launch of the Academic Council to which every
departmental committee will send a delegate to discuss important educational
issues at the University wide level. Another new initiative
to begin this year is a Special Project Fund which staff-student committees
can apply for in order to do research and surveys on any relevant issues.
Overall, our representation
works best if we know what our student reps are speaking about. So
please ensure that you keep in regular contact with your divisional representative
and contact the Academic and Welfare Secretary if you need more support.
We are here to help and we want to make sure that students' views count.
