Domesday Book Continued:
Ashford Carbonell is a village steeped in history, having seen conflict in both the Wars of the Roses and The Civil War and struggles for ownership of the manors, yet seems to have come through it all relatively unscathed. The Industrial Revolution very largely passed the village by and, today, the inhabitants are grateful for the fact, with the village being an oasis from busy business life. Even the road through the village goes only to outlying farms and has no though route, so inhabitants are largely spared the noise and pollution of traffic.

For anyone hoping to visit Ashford Carbonell, there are two very worthwhile purchases we would recommend:

Ashford Carbonel - A Peculiar Parish - A brief history: by Phyllis M Ray and Ashford Carbonell - 2000 A.D. (on sale at this site soon)
