Poldo. What can one say about him and the famous voice ? It has been likened to - amongst other things - a musical cement mixer, or, as Dusty once put it for those who live in the UK - the Rab C. Nesbit of pop ! To say that Ashley's voice was powerful would be like saying RW is just a pianist ! When Poldo hit a high note he made sure the whole town heard it !
Where the name Poldo came from I have no idea. Ashley, John and Roger played together before any of us joined Rick, so I suspect it stems from those days. I have fond memories of Poldo wearing his red leather tassled jacket open to the navel showing that hairy chest beneath, strutting his stuff for all the world like a slightly portly Mick Jagger ! |
