A Faith and Light Community brings together about thirty people. Coordinated by a small team, it meets regularly for:

  • a time of sharing
  • a time of fiesta
  • a time of celebration and prayer

The community grows together further through holidays, pilgrimages, retreats, week ends...

A sound of hope

For handicapped people, Faith and Light reveals to them their call to share the riches of the heart, their tenderness, their fidelity.

For parents, Faith and Light supports them in their difficulties. It helps parents to see the inner beauty of their son or daughter and to discover that their child can be a source of light.

For friends, Faith and Light opens up the path of friendship and committment with handicapped people, whereby each discovers in the other the presence of the risen Jesus.

A mission

At a time when many people with a mental hanicap are done away with before, or at, birth, while others are abandoned, Faith and Light wants to be a witness of the love of God for them and their families, and a response to the call: "Bear one anothers' burdens".

1971 A small group of parents and other concerned people, amomg whom were Jean Varnier and Marie-Helene Mathieu, took the initiative to a pilgrimage to Lourdes, involving those with a mental handicap, their families and friends, especially young people. From this gathering Faith and Light was born. 1991 A world wide and ecumenical pilgrimage of the communities of Faith and Light to Lourdes. It brings together "Towards Unity" 13000 pilgrims from sixty countries, christians from different denominations, one in love for jesus and for the least of his brethren.
