Triumphant England reclaim Ashes
Kevin Pietersen smashed his first ever Test century to earn the draw that gave England a 2-1 series win and the Ashes for the first time since 1987.
Pietersen, who was dropped twice, hit 158 and Ashley Giles 59 before England were bowled out for 335 at The Oval, to snuff out Australian hopes of victory.

Nasa has launched its first manned space mission in two-and-a-half years.
Space shuttle Discovery blasted off on its 12-day flight at 1039 local time (1539 BST) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Pope John Paul II Dies
Pope John Paul II has died in his apartment at the Vatican in Rome. He was 84 and had led the world's one billion Catholics for 26 years. The Polish-born pontiff, who received the last rites on Thursday evening, suffered heart failure and shock during treatment for a urinary tract infection.

Huygens sends first Titan images
The Huygens space craft has sent back the first images of Saturn's moon Titan, showing what appears to be a shoreline of an oily ocean. One stunning black and white image reveals what seem to be drainage channels on a land surface leading out into a dark body of liquid.
