Storyline

In the early days things were a bit new and exciting. There no attacks on earth with the exception of whatever was going on between us here on this rock. Somehow there was always some group... some faction of dissidents who had to try and upset the applecart.

What was it? Greed?....Ego?... But then again... those things are the true mothers and fathers of invention aren't they?

It was with one such display that a certain young scientist happened apon the key to controlling the slipgates. For years I sat in that chair... staring blankly at a static filled door. Alot of good men were lost on that project. Most notibly of course the famed Ranger.. my brother.

Virtually all of the militaries funding went into the study of these slipgates... probably with the intention of using it as a wepon eventually. Against who? That did'nt really matter. It was enough that we had the technology and noone else did... or so we thought.

After Ranger had disappeared during an experiment, re-con forces informed us that there was a new threat on the horizon... A race of cybernetically enhanced beings known as the strogg. They had their eye on destroying earths defences and essentially assimilating everyone like the Borg on some old Star Trek episode. Well naturally our response to that was... "FUCK no!"... or something to that effect.

Slipgate research was halted... as it wasn't showing much immediate promise. We knew they worked... and we knew that if we went in em, we'd go... somewhere. We couldn't control exactly where though... so... that wouldn't have been incredibly useful in a war effort. We'd considered using them as boobytraps... having the unwitting Strogg bastard stroll into it never to return.. however we couldnt be certain that whatever was in there wouldnt end up working to their advantage. That was a risk that was not worth taking according to the ones on top. I cant say I totally agree... but thats millitary officers for you. I had to come to terms with the fact that I might never see Ranger again.

As a scientist I wasn't of much use anymore... unless I was being used to design wepons and I can't say that appealed much to me. I decided to study medicine. I liked the idea of saving lives more then ending them... even if they were the enemy. The Commander of our Unit took it hard I think.
