NEW YOUTH CAFE PROJECT

We are currently planning a new youth cafe to be positioned in Mitcheldean, which we see as a major step forward in the provision of services for local young people.  Planned to open in the summer, the Youth Cafe and Drop in facility will initially operate from a non-permanent site for one evening a week.  Combining the project with our Action For Youth projects, the Cafe will provide young people with a venue where they can have fun, feel safe, meet with their friends and also gain access to our wide range of services and information.

We firmly believe that a constructive alternative to the street corner must be provided in the local area, to serve the young people.

SUPPORT FOR NEWENT YOUTH

Since July 1996, we have been working with the Newent Outreach Project Committee, assisting them in the development of a mobile caravan and detached youth work project.

The project which started in January, works with the young people providing snacks and refreshments on the street.  We have been asked to provide an experienced youth worker who can directly assist the team in the first 3 months of the project, as well as providing ongoing support and advice for a further 9 months.

We look forward to providing these services to Newent, and hope that the experience and training provided by us can benefit more youth projects in the area.
