Before ng or nk, i is pronounced as í, e as ei, u as ú, ö as au, o as ó and a as á.

Pronounciation of Consonants

p	As in english. Between vowels as b
t	As in english. Between vowels as d
k	As in english. Between vowels as g
pp, tt, kk	When these occur after a vowel an h-sound is voiced before the double consonants, which are pronounced as b, t and g.
kj-, kí-, ki, ke-, kæ-	k becomes a palatal (hard) sound.
b	As b in english
d	As d in english
g	As in dog
gj-, gí-, gi-, ge-, gæ-	g becomes a palatal (soft) sound.
gt, gg, kt, kg	At the end of a word after a vowel, g is pronounced as in the english loch. (e.g. lagt, sagt)
gi	At the end of a word, g is pronouced as boy. (e.g. bogi, agi)
ð	As the or that.
þ	As thing, both
s	As sooth, haste.
v	As in vote.
f	At the begining of a word or when doubled as father. In the middle or at the end of a word as vote.
hj	As flick.
h	As in how.
hv	Pronounced as kv.
m, n, l	As in english but silent after h at the begining of a word and before p, t and k.
r	Pronounced as a rolled r but silent after h at the start of a word and before p, t or k.
ll	Pronounced as dl.
nn	Pronounced as nn after a, e, i, o, u and ö. Elsewhere as dn.
