Diary for December

07/01/2000

In writing this may I wish all our visitors to the web site,a HAPPY NEW YEAR, and successful flying for the coming year.

December for us was not very good,we only managed to get up to the field five times. In Todmorden our town, the weather has been quite bad at times, what with snow , strong winds, and heavy rain, flooding in some parts of the valley near to home, and then came the fog.

14th & 15th, came the snow,we were unable to get to the flying site because of the drifting snow in the lane leading up to the field, but the next day 15th we managed it.Three of our company came,so we had a decent hours flying, there was about 2inchs of snow on the field, but the planes, a WOT 4, a PANIC, and my SKY DANCER were all capable of taking off.

We arrived on the 18th, the rain commenced at the same time, so we withdrew. 19th , the fog arrived at the same time, at this time of the year you have to take a chance, it was clear in the town below, so we had to return home.

28 and 29th we had some better weather,so I got out the WOTS WOT, again we had a nice hours flying.

We have a newcomer to our happy band. Yan, he is 12 years old, or thereabouts. He has bought a President HI-Boy,complete with a good MDS 35 and four servos. For Christmas he receive a transmitter and a receiver, so it was all systems go, or so he thought..,however today 3rd Jan , I took him up to the field, where he met my friends. Steve one of our lot had a good look at the machine and checked out the system, had one or two of the servos to reverse then declared we might give it a go .

I must say Yan cannot fly, and did his best to set it all up himself, so I think he did fairly well. I don't think the engine had been run for some time, but in the end we got it going and it runs very well. The plane was flown twice by Steve and when four crashes high Yan had a fly, for his first attempts , with Steve looking on and ready to grab the tranny back, he did quite well .Yan is back to school tomorrow, so will have to wait until the weekend to see if it's fit for flying.

On the 2nd Jan the phone rang ' Are we going up' was the question, at this time it was a nice sunny dinner time, so it was agreed to go. we usually get to the site about 1.30pm. As I set off the sun had gone, the hill tops looked dubious , mist was forming, however by the time I arrived, the mist was down, Steve had already had a fly, John was setting up, I ducked out, and the other two went into the field. They both took off, it was like trying to fly control liners at 15 ft. they must be mad........... They landed and called it a do, John just had to have a fix. Our other member Michael had already flown earlier and deserted us towards Lumbutts, he was going to the swim but it was noted he had a flying wing with him. The swim at Lumbutts is held every year, nearest to New years day. They swim in the dam there, this is an event in the local calender, and many attend from all over the country. the swim was held but Michael did not fly the fog was also there

Look out in February for next diary entry.................D K T.
