Diary for January

02/02/2000

Hello everyone,I am back again . January has gone and let's hope we have a better February . Last month the weather has been little better than December 99, we have again had much windy and wet weather, coupled with the odd day or two with snow and heavy frosts, again came the fog from time to time.

I suppose we ought to be satisfied with the number of turn outs we achieved, we managed eight visits to the flying field, this was the same as January 99. Steve and I kept a list of the times we turn out, together with what we flew, I am afraid Michael is not always with us, he seems to stray away to some adjoining slopes, along with his flying wing that someone else built for him, who shall remain nameless.

I have flown various planes of late, some that have not been out for quite some time, a Wots Wot. My Skydancer, a Wot Four, a Wayfarer and my Panic, Michael told all that I turned out with it in December, and that I could not get the engine started, well it was poorly, it has been away for a service, it had not been looked at for the last four years, and had served me faithfully, I would rather leave four strokes, and let someone attend to it who knows what he is doing, it is going like a bomb now.

Steve had his Wot Four out and another of his models, and when young Yan said he was coming on one of the Sundays, he brought his Mustang. Yan has been in my model room, and has seen my Magnattila, and is wanting me to bring it out for him to see flying.

John, well we usually see him midweek and on Sundays, he does like a fix. He picked up a large low wing aerobatic model at a local shop for a very reasonable price. He fitted it with a 40 type engine, but nit struggled to get off the ground, flew quite well once in the air, but not fast enough. John, before taking up flying was a boat man, he used to go up and down the country racing these boats, so he likes something fast, however he has fitted it with a MDS 60, not it goes like the clappers, so I expect we shall see this plane for the foreseeable future.

Our last run out together was the 26th Jan, whilst we were flying the clouds came down, I called it a day, to the sound of "Chicken", the others continued for a short while and we called it a day. I have watched the weather forecasts, but there is nothing of any good till after the weekend, 5/6th February in our neck of the woods. I will write a bit more next month.
