North Shropshire is bounded to the South by the River Severn,and High Ercall Parish is found     between two of its tributaries the River Roden and River Tern.The two main market towns are    Shrewsbury and Wellington,where the farmers would sell their produce.

This 18C Map of North Shropshire was printed in 1805. The two small hamlets of Rowton and Ellerdine given to Madoc son of Griffin in 1255 are underlined in red. They lie about 1 mile North-East of High Ercall.
