The Rossendale Rambler

A.G.M. 1999 Round-up

by Walter Waide

On a poor evening for weather, the turn-out for the AGM was correspondingly poor with less than 15 members attending. Despite that however, the business of the evening was concluded.

There was something of a re-shuffle of the committee in that Reg Rattan resigned the chair due to his globe-trotting commitments over the coming year - many thanks Reg. He will remain as a committee member and the chair has been taken over by Ian Tattersall who has had his arm severely twisted! Ian became a member a couple of years ago, joined the committee last year and is now the chairman - a meteoric rise - what will he do next?

Sheila Goggins has resigned from the committee and her place has been taken by Gretchen Pyves. Thanks Sheila we will miss you at the Griffin.

Jean Johnson has resigned as Countryside officer and her reasons for this are set out in her report. The rest of us are as we were.

Jim and Bertha Rostron stepped in to give us one of their excellent slide shows which featured some of our walks over the years.

A raffle for prizes donated by Fell and Mountain as well as a bottle of whisky from Reg Rattan (as penance for his absence!) raised in excess of £30 and it seemed that everyone got a prize! - look out for some natty shorts next summer.

Walter Waide wrested the ‘Walk of the Year’ from Richard and special certificates of merit were presented to Ian Tattersall and Gretchen Pyves for their cool heads in emergencies. Ian for his navigation and Gretchen for her medical expertise, both of which may well have saved lives.
