The Rossendale Rambler

Some of you have already met me, but for those of you who haven't my name is Elaine Eccles and I am the foreigner in your midst being "beamed-in" from darkest Nelson

No - I didn't get recruited by your pro-active marketing department based at the Griffin Inn nor tempted by the tantalising recipes provided by your in-house catering department headed by the enterprising Joan, or even lured by a cheap and cheerful Scottish Holiday. Sorry folks it was the walks that did it. Why now? Never had the time before. After spending the last five year's studying (got my degree now) plus attending to three demanding children every weekend left me with little thought in my head about satisfying my love of the countryside and walking. That's all in the past and I can now think about ME. I joined the Ramblers in the Summer of 1997 and I have steadily progressed up the walks until I stumbled upon (sorry about the pun) you all in the Ramblers diary.

On the one hand you may have Ramblers complaining you don't cater for the 4/5 mile walker, but on the other your walks attract people like me who like to get their boots on for the full day and then get their legs in the third or even fourth gear if need-be. Ramblers who enjoy shorter leisurely walks can mix and match with the Burnley and Pendle Group - I'm sure they will be made most welcome.

One of my many weaknesses is remembering people's names. But, I can now match as least 10 people with their relevant head and body plus, of course, relevant walking style. I've bought the boots, I'm saving up for the Jacket -so I think I might be halfway to being an established Rossendale Valley Group Walker!!!!! (It’s nice to hear from people when they enjoy the walks we lay on. If you have enjoyed a particular walk - or haven’t, drop us a line, we like to know what you think of our efforts. Ed.)
