NOTICE BOARD AND NEWS, March 2000

SCOTLAND MEETING

All those going on the Scotland trip in May should come to the meeting that has been organised at Gretchen Pyves’ house. We will be discussing transportation and other details prior to setting off. The meeting will be on Tuesday, April the 4th at 7.30 pm. You will be asked to take off your shoes at the door so make sure you have clean socks without holes! Ring Gretchen on 01706 214018 for instructions on how to get to her home.

CAR BOOT SALE - Bric-a-brac

Following a very successful car boot sale last year, we are hoping to organise another one this year, again to raise funds. Joan and Malcolm have once more been press-ganged into running it and if you have any articles you wish to contribute, contact a member of the committee and we will try to arrange to pick it up. Thanks.

ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS ORGANISE ‘SUPER’ SLIDE-SHOW.

Members are invited to attend what will be a super slide-show entitled ‘A Highland Experience’. Billed as an ‘Audio-visual Presentation’ the show will contain a multitude of slides of the Scottish Highlands, each section being accompanied by it’s own, very apposite, music. You are urged to "Climb the mountains, see the wildlife, marvel at the magnificent scenery or just enjoy a musical journey through the wildest, yet most beautiful area in Great Britain." The event will take place at the Central Library, Rawtenstall at 7.45 pm on Monday the 17th April 2000 and will be presented by Malcolm Roberts. There will be a nominal entrance fee of £1 to off-set costs and refreshments will be available in the interval.

I thoroughly commend you to attend on the night and if you know of anyone else who would like to be there, please feel free to bring them along. I have leaflets available if you need them and the event will be advertised locally and on the Internet on the web-site.

We hope also to attract non-members to the event and use it as a recruitment exercise, hopefully to boost our membership for the coming year. If you need leaflets contact me, Walter Waide on 01706 228681 or if you need to know more about the event, contact Alan Johnson on 01706 877521. It would be nice to see those of you who do not come on the walks and perhaps get to know you a little better. See you there !

PRESS COVER OF LOCAL WALKS

Since some time before Christmas last year I have become concerned that the weekly write ups of our walks have not been published in the local press. This situation worsened after the ‘Express’ was discontinued and the ‘Free Press’ was re-vamped. I have been in correspondence with Richard Catlow about this and he has been very helpful. What we are getting now is a regular spot which tells of up-coming walks. Reports of walks are not published but I will keep submitting them. I have also established contact with other local papers and reports are appearing in them on a regular basis. You will also find a full version of each report on the web site which is up-dated each week.

FREE FLEECES AT FELL AND MOUNTAIN

Fell and Mountain Logo

Fell and Mountain are giving away a free fleece with every Gortex jacket that they sell. Get in there quickly before they all go. The bargain of the month however, has to be the Brasher Ridgemaster Lady boots he is selling. They are slight seconds but carry a full guarantee - all at £79.75. They normally retail at £129.95. Having used a pair of the men’s version of the boots for the last year, I can only say they are the best I’ve ever worn.
