With the popular hit single being played to death, it was starting to look as though these four young ladies were only destined to become one hit wonders. Not these girls, the self entitled album was on the streets before you could blink, and the second single 'With me' is blowing up big time right now. Do these girls plan on slowing down? I don't think so!.Recently in London performing at Choice FM's birthday bash and HMV in Oxford street, the foursome from Houston, Texas not only proved they can sing, but also that they can perform live, (and let's face it many artists these days seem to have forgotten how to put on a decent live performance!) Destiny's Child celebrated their anniversary on the 4th July, seven years together and it seems like their run of success has just started. Already they have worked with producers/rappers Jermaine Dupri and Master P, and are now making plans for other projects. Regardless of their age, make no mistake these are no naïve little girls. So excuse me, I've got a date with destiny!. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER Kelly: We have been together for seven years, it was our anniversary this july fourth, we went to a family reunion and just had a lot of fun. HAVE YOU ALL BEEN FRIENDS A LONG TIME? Kelly: Yes actually we met before we got into the group. Beyonce went to school with Le Toya and La Tavia and I went to school together. La Tavia introduced me to the group and we've been friends ever since and we think that's what really holds us together in our band, because we've known each other for so long we know how each other acts we finish each others sentences you could just really call us sisters. THERE ARE A LOT OF FEMALE GROUPS WHO SAY THAT THEY ARE TIGHT BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR SO LONG, BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS THAT SEPERATES YOU FROM OTHER GIRL GROUPS IN TERMS OF YOUR STYLE? Kelly: It's like I said we've been together for so long we know each other voices and it's more than just friends, it's more than just sisters it's more than anything, because we all know that all we have is just us four. WHERE DID YOU GET THE NAME 'DESTINY'S CHILD'? Kelly: Beyonces mum was reading the Bible and one day at the time we had been looking for a name, well she was reading the Bible and I think it was Isaiah. A picture fell out and at the top of the picture was the name in bare-face print, Destiny, and we were like, this is send from god and that really freaked us out because it came from the Bible. So we tried using the name Destiny, but we found out another group had it, so not to cause any legal stuff, we came up with the name 'child' between us, management, and the record company, and we just fused it together to make 'Destiny's Child'. SO YOU ARE ALL VERY RELIGIOUS? Kelly: Yes most definitely, we all go to church together, and as a matter-of-fact about four or five months ago we all got baptised together. HOW DID YOU ALL START SINGING? La Tavia: We used to be just singing along everywhere in Houston, and one day a representative from Sony was in the audience. We talked to her and she flew us to New York, we did a very informal show case and they signed us two and a half weeks later. HOW DO YOU FEEL WORKING WITH PRODUCERS SUCH AS WYCLEF AND MASTER P? La Tavia: Blessed it's an honour to work with those people, that's why were so excited about the album, we want everyone to go out and get it, and hear Destiny's Child. DO ANY OF YOU WRITE YOUR OWN MATERIAL? La Tavia: We co-wrote two tracks on the album with Dwayne Wiggins we did 'Birthday' and we co-wrote 'With me' with Master P, and Beyonce produced the second single in Japan, but we plan on producing and writing a lot more. Right now we want to grow in the entertainment business not necessarily just writing or just producing, we want to act, we want to write videos, we want to do everything, one day we want to have our own record company. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING TO DO AT UNIVERSITY? La Tavia: I want to try and take on a double major in business and sound engineering. Kelly: Everybody want to really major in engineering and business, I want to major in business and film, I love cameras and I love videos and I want to really get into that. We wrote the last treatment for our video 'With me', that was a lot of fun. YOUR NEW SINGLE OUT AT THE MOMENT 'WITH ME'. CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG IS BASICALLY ABOUT A WOMAN TAKING ANOTHER WOMAN'S MAN? Le Toya: No, it's not about that, actually we're the guys best friend, like a shoulder to go to lean on because she was playing with him and doing him wrong and he didn't want to be in the relationship anymore and we were just his friend, someone to comfort him. We ain't trying to take the girls man or anything. SO HAVE ANY OF YOU BEEN IN THAT SITUATION BEFORE? Le Toya: No, I know I haven't (to the rest of the group) have y'all been in a situation where y'all took somebody's man? (to me) no. IS THERE ANY ONE YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH IN THE FUTURE? Le Toya: Oh yes, Janet Jackson definitely, I want to work with Michael Jackson, Timberkand, there are a lot of people we want to work with out there. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFLUENCES? Le Toya: We all have the same musical influences we just don't base them all on RnB, we like all types. Kelly brings the alternative part to the group, we listen to the Supremes, the Emotions, Boys to Men, and Master P. MASTER P! SO YOU LIKE HARDCORE HIP-HOP? Le Toya: I love hardcore hip-hop, I bring the rap to the group while La Tavia and Beyonce like all types of music. SO DO YOU RAP YOURSELF? Le Toya: Not me, La Tavia is the rapper of the group, actually she rapped with Pras on the 'Illusions' track. I LIKE HIP HOP MY SELF, BUT MASTER P TALKS ABOUT A LOT OF NEGATIVE THINGS TO DO WITH KILLING, AND WOMEN HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HIM BEING ON YOUR RECORDS AND REPRESENTING THAT? Le Toya: Well he knew he would not be doing any cussing or talking about women or guns and sex. He knew that wouldn't be on the song and that we wouldn't allow him to do that, so we weren't worried about that. HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE HANDLED THE SUCCESS OF THE YOUR DEBUT ALBUM? Le Toya: very well, were blessed. HOW DO YOU FIND LONDON, YOU WERE OUT HERE RECENTLY? Le Toya: We like London, it's like our second home we're out there all the time. Beyonce: It's different from where we're from, in Houston everything is spread out and it's really hot, and there kind of reminds me of New York. There are some beautiful people up there. YOU WERE ALL AT THE HIPPODROME RECENTLY FOR THE CHOICE FM BIRTHDAY PARTY, HOW DO YOU FIND THE LONDON CROWD? Beyonce: There're really really hyped, when we were in London we did an in-store, and the people got really into in, we had to stop performing, because they didn't have security and we kind of mobbed. OH WAS THAT THE HMV GIG? Beyonce: Yeah, that was the hypest a crowd has ever been for us, it was a wonderful experience, but it was kind of scary because of the little babies. DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS A RIOT, THAT THEY ACTUALLY LOOTED THE STORE? Beyonce: No, but that was the best crowd ever. We looked through the cameras and we were like oh my god did we do all that, all the displays were just knocked over and I was like. I feel sorry for the people who have to pick up all of this. DO DESTINY'S CHILD HAVE ANY PLANS FOR ANY MOVIES OR SITCOMS? Beyonce: We've talked to some people in the states, but we've done a couple shows and we hope to do some more. They were talking about our sit-come but we're not sure, we have to wait until our album platinum before we plan that. Our single sold 1.5 million and our album is gold now, but we need the album Platinum., so we need everybody to go out there and pick it up.
