A COLOURFUL former Midlands man who has
achieved fame worldwide as London's town
crier had something to shout about when he
returned to his roots for the first time
in almost 60 years.
Peter
Moore was born at the Manor Hospital in
Walsall but his mother gave him up for
adoption and he spent his first seven
years of his life in a children's home in
the Staffordshire village of
Hammerwich.
He
was fostered out and went to live in Wales
at the age of 16, in true Dick Whittington
style, he decided to head south and seek
his fame and fortune in London.
|
Peter became an actor and went on to make
appearances in such TV hits as No
Hiding Place and Z Cars. He
went on to work for the then Greater
London Council as the capital's town crier
and now works for the city's
boroughs.
Peter,
whose travels have taken him all over the
world publicising London, returned to
Walsall to open a new branch for a
national pub chain and part of his fee is
to be donated to the charit
Scope.
Peter
said: "It is a long time since I have been
back to the area and I can remember little
or nothing about it."
