Adopting a
Greyhound
Oyez! Oyez! London town crier calls on dog lovers
to adopt a greyhound
Ringing his bell
outside City Hall, home to the Mayor of London, Ken
Livingstone and the Greater London Authority, Peter
Moore, London's town
crier, took to the streets today to call upon dog
lovers to adopt a greyhound.
As the owner of a retired
greyhound called Basil, Peter said, "I was shocked
and deeply saddened by the coverage I have seen
this week about the killing of thousands of
greyhounds, and I wanted to get out here and help
by spreading the word that greyhounds make great
pets.
"The coverage serves to
highlight that many more homes need to be found for
the thousands of greyhounds retiring in the UK
every year. The Retired Greyhound Trust is doing a
sterling job, but more homes are still needed," Mr
Moore expressed.
Peter says that adopting
Basil was one of the best things he has ever done.
"I can't imagine life without him," Peter says.
"He's affectionate, relaxed and very easy to care
for. I would love to see even more of Basil's
friends finding a home, which is why I'm out here
ringing my bell to encourage people to adopt a
greyhound!"
The Retired Greyhound
Trust is a national charity dedicated to finding
homes for ex-racers. It works closely with a
network of dedicated volunteers across the UK,
together with the racing industry, to find suitable
homes for greyhounds who no longer race so they can
live out their retirement to the
fullest. |
