Peter
started life as an actor and
attributes his impressive voice
to the disciplines of the stage.
In 1974 he answered a small ad
and was given the job of Town
Crier for The London Experience -
a tourist attraction which stood
ont he site now occupied by the
Trocadero. For three years he
stood outside, ringing his bell
to attract attention, apparantly
with great success. This led to
several London boroughs employing
him on retainer to fulfil his
duties when required so much so
that Peter holds the title of
Town Crier for Covent Garden
Market, Docklands and Regent
Street. His calendar of events
include the Epsom Derby and the
Wimbledon Tennis Championships,
where he is a popular and
much-loved institution. He also
leads the London Parade every New
Years Day.
Via
his website Peter is doing more
and more commercial work, but
insists he isn't in it for the
money. He does it, he says,
because he loves his work, and he
loves his country - and it would
appear that his country loves him
too. He has recently picked up
commissions from Hamleys toy
shop, the London Aquarium, the
Britain In Bloom Festival, the
British Tourist Authority...the
list is endless. Peter's work has
also taken him abroad, to such
far flung locations as India,
America, Australia and Japan,
where he leads parades, promotes
local attractions, and works for
hotels, department stores and
airlines.
"My
bell is a key," Peter observes.
"It opens doors to places most
people can only dream about."
This certainly seems to be true,
as he hobnobs with royalty,
politicians and celebrities
alike. Indeed, he announced the
birth of the HRH Prince William,
the future king of England, at
the very gates of Buckingham
Palace. |
