MAYORS from across
London put their best foot forward on
Sunday morning to walk from Archway to the
City, writes Mark Blunden.
As host mayor, Islington's Councillor
Jonathan Dearth led the "chain gang" of 32
of his colleagues, including David Brewer,
Lord Mayor of the City of London, who were
accompanied by Peter Moore, London town
crier.
The annual five-mile charity trek is held
to commemorate the life of Dick
Whittington, who was Lord Mayor of the
City of London 600 years ago.
After 'robbing' at Whittington Hospital in
Archway, the Mayors began their walk at
the Whittington memorial on Highgate Hill
and wended their way down the A1 and into
the City, where they were welcomed at
Mansion House by pipers. |
