RINGING
THE CHANGES: TJ Hughes chief executive
George Foster with London town crier Peter
Moore, open a new area for Burnley
shoppers
Store
opens with tight
security
BURNLEY'S
biggest store opened its doors today amid
tight security as police and store
detectives tried to prevent shoplifters
descending on the premises.
Retail
chain TJ Hughes opened the 33,000 sq ft
outlet - and marked the launch of Burnley
town centre's $12.5 million Curzon Square
development - with a heavy police
presence.
A
joint statement from police stressed the
security arrangements and stressed that
shoplifters would be
prosecuted.
"There
will be a massive store detective
presence," said a police
spokesman.
London's
town crier, Peter Moore, started off a
countdown at TJ Hughes before the red
ribbon was cut by the company's chief
executive, George Foster.
A
glazed pedestrian bridge over Curzon
Street was also opened and links the new
building with the outside
market.
TJ
Hughes, which has created more than 80
jobs in the town, covers 30,000 square
feet of retail space between two floors
and is the second store in the town to
have an escalator.
