Bonkers Day Sheep Is Stolen

RUSTLED: Southwark deputy mayor Eliza Mann with town crier Peter Moore and the now missing sheep

EVERYTHING at a fun festival to promote mental well being was a success bar the theft of a fibreglass sheep.

Camberwell Green was open to the public and packed with people enjoying BonkersFest! held on Saturday in the brilliant sunshine.

They were enjoying the arts festival billed as a day "celebrating mad ness, creativity and eccentricity".

The day was put together by Camberwell-based charity Creative Routes, an award-winning arts organisation run by, and for, former

and current mental health patients. It startedwith bananas being fired out of a cannon and followed by a range of events including live music, samba drummers and dancers.

But nothing could have been more bonkers than someone's decision to steal one of five fibreglass sheep hired for the day.

The charity had also hired four zebras and four cows from a prop company, which it now has to pay £500 for the sheep.

Event spokeswoman Helen Maleed said: "We hired them to jazz the place up.
"Now the charity has to pay the £500 for it - they are really upset.

"It marred what was otherwise a perfect day.
"There was a really nice community spirit - theb someone nicked the sheep."

The possible thief was seen walking down Camberwell Church Street away from the Festival at 3pm with a fibreglass

sheep under their arm.
Police have been informed but Helen is hoping someone will just return the sheep to the charity with "no questions asked". Creative Routes aims to dispel the stigma of mental health and encourage patients to express themselves in art.

Anyone with information about the sheep can go to the charity's base at Camberwell Leisure Centre, Artichoke Place, off Camberwell Church Street.

They can also call Creative Routes on 02073583138.
