Reverend Francis Plumb was born February 25, 1823 at Barrowby, Lincolnshire, England.

 

He was the son of Francis Plumb and Ann (Anne) Johnson. Francis was put to work on the farm where his father labored when he was only nine years old. At the age of fourteen he hired out to a neighboring farmer for three years for board and a total of $77.50 in money. His educational opportunities were very limited in his youth due to the poverty of his family.

 

He joined the Wesleyan Church in 1843. He married Ann Parker 18 September 1848. To this union were born live children; Mary (1849-???) born in England; Alice (1851-1859) born in England; Thomas Francis (1854-1918) Born in Crawfordsville, Ohio, Married Mary Eliza Robertson. Buried Silver City, Iowa; Sara Ann (Tallie) (1857-1930) Born Ft. Seneca, Ohio, Married Judson C. Wilson. Buried St. 'Edwards, Nebr.; Milicent Jane (1860-1914) Born Elida, Ohio, Married S.E. Brown, Buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

 

In the fall of 1853 he was admitted to the North Ohio Conference as a Methodist Minister. He served congregations in Woodville, Fort Seneca, Quincy, Elida, Delphon, LeFayette, Roundhead, Marseillies, and Dunkirk. In August of 1869 he was transferred to the Des Moines Conference where he served congregations at Silver Creek, Emerson, Council Bluffs, Sidney, Milford, Conway, Dallas, Saylorville, Altoona, Winterset, and St. Charles.

 

In 1888 he retired from the ministry. Rev. Francis Plumb died of apoplexy or heart trouble December 6, 1896 at the residence of his son, Thomas F. Plumb, four miles east of Silver City, Mills County, Iowa. He is buried beside his wife Ann and his mother Ann in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Francis/Frank Plumb was born February 6, 1846 at Barrowby, Lincolnshire, England. His parents were William and Sarah (Gray) Plumb. William, being the oldest son of Francis and Ann (Johnson) Plumb of Barrowby is buried there in the churchyard along with his wife Sarah, son Thomas, father Francis 1779-1843 and Mary, sister of William. To William and Sarah were born eight children, the three oldest, George married Ann Coy; Valentine married Charlotte Llewlyn and Francis/Frank who married Grace McKinnon came to America and settled in Mills County between 1868-1871, later settled in Shel­by County, Harlan with the exception of George of the Oakland area.

 

Francis/Frank and his wife Grace, daughter of Peter and Grace (McClellan) McKinnon married in Chatham, England and arrived in America in 1868. Came up the Missouri River to Coun­cil Bluffs, Iowa, continuing on to the home of his uncle Valentine Plumb, Anderson Township, Mills County where he worked for his uncle for three years, rented four more years before moving with his family to Tennant where he purchased 120 acres and made his home for a number of years before moving to Harlan.

 

To Francis/Frank and wife were born seven children, the four oldest born in Mills County. They are William V. married Kathrine Kohl, John Edward married Lydia Alice Dickey, Rob­ert Francis married Josephine Myers and after her death Mamie Phillips, Margaret Isabel married George Menzel, Lillian Grace, Alfred Alon­zo to Eda Inez Custer and Florance Grace to Har­ry Mcintyre.

 

Francis/Frank and wife Grace are buried at Harlan, Iowa. Grace died 1928 and Fran­cis/Frank 1931.

Jemima (pictured with George above) was born in Dekalb County, Indiana, daughter of John Gosner and Catherine Devore. Married and died in Mills County Iwoa.

George Plumb was born August 8, 1830 at Barrowby, Lincolnshire, England. His parents were Francis Plumb and Ann (Anne) Johnson. He was one in a family of eleven children. One child died in infancy and ten lived to adult age. George was the tenth child born in the family and the tenth to depart for America. He came to America in 1850 and located in Upper Sandusky, Wyandotte County, Ohio. He went to California during the gold rush and worked on a freighter.

 

He was married to Matilda Metott on May 1, 1854 in Wyandotte County, Ohio. It is uncertain what happened to his first wife. He came to Council Blulls, Iowa in 1855 and then to Mills County. He bought 80 acres of land in Anderson Township for $300 on March 29, 1859. He bought another 20 acres adjacent to this for $160 in Dec. 1862.

 

On Oct. 8, 1864, he was united in marriage to Jemima Gonser by a justice of the peace in Mills County.

 

To this union were born five children; Julia Ann (1864-1916) married Elhanan Clark Fickel and moved to Cowles, Nebraska; Marion A. (1866-1917) married Ella Parker buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery; Carson Francis (1868-1947) married Rose ?'?? - buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery; Millie Iva (1871-1962) married to George Parker- buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery and Forest Valentine (1889-1969) married Emma Gould.

 

George and Jemima Plumb were charter members of Wesley Chapel Church. George was one of the first Trustees to hold the deed for the tract of land the church and cemetery arc on. The deal for this tract of land was made on Christmas Day 1873.

 

Jemima Gonser died in Anderson Township, Mills County on January 16, 1889. This was six days after her youngest son Forest was born.

 

George Plumb died February 11, 1900 at home. Both George and Jemima Plumb are buried in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

 

George Plumb's estate consisting of 329 acres of land on the Nishna Botna River in Anderson Township, was bought in .Iuly 1900 by his son-in-law George H. Parker for $13,500.

George Plumb, born May 20, 1842 at Barrowby, Lincolnshire, England, the eldest son of William and Sarah (Gray) Plumb of Barrowby and grandson of Francis and Ann (Johnson) Plumb of Barrowby ,- Ann came to America in 1853.

George married in 1867 Ann Coy, daughter of Thomas and Ann (Thurby) Coy of Harlaxton, England.

To George and Ann were born Thomas William 1868, Harry Reloy 1872, Arthur Wesley 1875 and Walter H. 1877, the latter three born in Mills County, Thomas born in England. George farmed in England and had worked in the dockyards at Chatham, England.

In 1871 with their young son Thomas, sailed from Liverpool, England for New York and on to Mills County, Iowa where his two brothers Francis/Frank and Valentine lived. George and his family remained here until 1881 when they moved to a farm in Pottawattamie County. Both he and his wife Ann along with their sons and their wives are buried at Belknap Cemetery. George died 1929 and Ann in 1928.
