The British Pétanque Association (BPA)
All 'Official' Pétanque in the UK is administered by the British Pétanque Association (BPA).

The country is split into regions, ours being the Chiltern Region. The local strictly BPA league within this region is the Pennant Mid Week League (PMWL). In addition there is the Lucas Software Solutions League. In this all Clubs, along with their Officers are registered with the BPA. Players are encouraged to hold BPA Licences and many do.

Contacts for Clubs in these Leagues is given in the list of Chiltern Club Contacts. (kindly provided by John Deaville).

Players wishing to enter the many and varied BPA tournaments must be paid up members of the BPA who issue licences for the purpose. At no extra charge, one can have an International licence which allows entry into similar events in countries around the world.

Clubs wishing to play in a BPA League such as the PMWL, must be affiliated to the BPA.

The BPA charge for both individual membership (with licence) and Club affiliation. What do they supply in return?
1/  They provide excellent League and Tournament competition.
2/  They send members copies of the latest 'Official Rules of Pétanque'.
3/  They send members copies of the 'Pétanque News'
4/  They provide Coaching sessions at all standards.
5/  They run courses for Umpires
6/  They organise our National Team in International competition.
7/  They insure members against third party injury claims.
8/  They run an excellent Web-Site at:-
www.britishpetanque.org.
9/  They supply boules and other equipment and run an associated website:-
www.boulesales.co.uk.

Currently there are some 30 clubs in the area that are affiliated to the BPA. Some are in the PMWL but the majority play in the Lucas League which is itself affiliated to the BPA and plays in BPA regional events.
