Long ago in a rehearsal studio far away... well at Squirrel Studio in West Kingsdown, four mates got together for a jam, little did they know at the time that they were soon to be embarking on a musical odyssey.
The premise of this first jam was ultimately just to have a laugh and show each other what sort of things musically we had been doing, well at least Dave, Nick, and Derren did, as this was my first musical endeavor and was the first time I had ever attempted to sing in front of anyone. At this time Dave was heavily influenced by punk rock, and from this first jam the songs that were to become 'Start' and 'Leper Valley' surfaced, though in a very different form than they appear now. Also this jam saw the birth of our most innovative and experimental piece the very un-PC 'Homosexuals from Mars' in which each member of the band would play an instrument essentially unknown to them and make as much noise as possible. To honour our punk heritage we named ourselves at this point 'Ring Piece', and it was decided since we had had such a laugh that we should do some more and get together again.
We did one more session at Squirrel, the most notable thing to come from this jam was the song that would become 'Bomb Blast' appeared, this song was an adaption of an early piece composed by Nick and Dave known as the 'Norseman'.
The next session saw a change of venue as well as a change in name for the band. We were now 'Bronsons Brigade' named after the famous Mexican actor with the mustache. A new rehearsal studio had opened a lot closer to where we all lived in Welling, and was imaginatively called Steves Studio, after the owner Steve, we decided to check it out, since it would make the process of getting to a rehearsal a lot easier. Around this time Daves music was being influenced by bands such as Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Black Sabbath and a band called Kyuss. As Bronsons Brigade we wrote the Sabbathy 'High Society' and the stoner anthem 'Down' and the mystical 'Grim'.
After a few more sessions (including the infamous Christmas Eve Six hour session) it was decided by Dave that we were ready to show the world what we could do, so we booked our first gig at a local alternative music venue the now departed Playpen at McMillans in Deptford, it was decided that another change of name was to take place for the gig, the new name was 'Wrought'.
In our short career we have played three gigs, at the Playpen on the 17th March 1995 and 12 October 1995 and finally at the Cancer Benefit gig held in docklands on the 27 April 1996. During the Wrought period new songs were added to the set and saw a more stoner influence and less of the punk, such songs as 'Don't' and 'Crash' being prime examples.
Wrought still lives on though we haven't gigged for some time, members of the band have been or are engaged in side projects such as 'Left hand' in which Dave plays keyboards, and Nick fronted the Heavy metal band 'Schism' and Derren drummed for a while with 'Dark Instinct', I myself have been leaning the guitar and jam occasionally with another guitarist, Alex Leithes. Dave, Nick, Derren and myself are all willing to gig with Wrought again, so if you want to book us please see our contact page and give us a call or e-mail. Please feel free to explore the rest of the site and discover the music of Wrought.
Exclusive News! 'Left hand' have offically split. Though there is some talk of one final piece of studio recording, the band will no longer be gigging. The split was prompted by family commitments from the singer/guitarist Blair whos girlfriend recently gave birth.
More News! 'Schism' old drummer has left, they have replaced him with another and are now called 'Fever Train', they have moved in a less 'Metal' direction tending to, in the words of the singer/guitarist Nick Smith, "in a more commercial direction". Fever Train played there debut gig at a private party on the 20 December 1997.
