Club trip

Dagworth and District Gentlemen’s Cycling Society

2025

August

Sunday 3rd

YASS: The Middy will be running trains over the new line extension.
One of our ‘turn up if you feel like it’ Steam Sundays where you take a chance on how many of us (if any) will be there.  There will be performances by the Castleton Brass Band to add the the celebratory atmosphere.

Thursday 7th

Meeting at West Suffolk Pub of the Year, Rattlesden Five Bells, starting at about half past eight.

Sunday 10th

The V-CC Flat Section Cycle Jumble at Marlinspike Hall has been cancelled, which opens up the possibility of …

YASS at The Middy.
Turn up if you feel like it and take a chance on how many of us (if any) will be there.  Watch out for all the old buses whizzing between the Middy and Stonham Barns.

Sunday 17th

YASS: The Middy will be visited by a couple of motor cycle clubs.
One of our ‘turn up if you feel like it’ Steam Sundays where you take a chance on how many of us (if any) will be there.  The Ipswich Section of the VMCC and the Royal Enfield Owners Club will be there so, if you have a Royal Enfield bicycle, why not bring it today?

Wednesday 20th

A visit to the Bury St Edmunds beer festival CamRA members’ preview session, which opens at 4pm.

Sunday 24th

Spoke and Steam: the annual event when we all converge on the Middy.
We start from Stowmarket, V-CC Flat Section members start from Walpole or Diss, and the Chickering Cycling Circle starts from Horham (& not the car park at the Middy).  Our ‘spoke’ leaves Unity Road at 10:30, calls at Stowmarket Railway station at 10:45, and Reeds Way in Stowupland a bit later depending on how long it takes to struggle up the hill.

Monday 25th

V-CC Flat Section monthly meeting—Plan A.

September

Thursday 4th

Meeting at West Suffolk Pub of the Year, Rattlesden Five Bells, starting at about half past eight.

Monday 29th

V-CC Flat Section monthly meeting—Plan B.

October

Saturday 4th

Train (and bus) trip to Whittlesea for the V-CC Old Soke Section Cycle Jumble and The Letter B; jumble starts at 11:00am at St Andrew’s Parish Room, Whittlesey, PE7 1BZ (TL267969).
Pitches: £10; Entry £1.  Cake (and other refreshments) available.
The bad news is that—again—there are no trains to Whittlesea on this day; it’s a rail replacement bus service from Ely.  Leaving Stowmarket at 8:09 gets us there at 10:30 or leaving two hours later gets us there … two hours later.

Wednesday 8th

V-CC Flat Section Marriots Mardle No2
Gather at the ‘Refectory’ café in Norwich Cathedral close before departing on the ride through the Erpingham Gate at 10:00, riding through medieval Tombland to the Marriots Way Cycle Path.  The path follows the Wensum valley to Reepham.  After lunch: onwards to the market town of Aylsham and the Bure Valley Railway Path to Wroxham.  Both Marriots Way and Bure Valley paths are fairly smooth to ride on but there are sections with loose stone and exposed tree roots.  Return from Wroxham to Norwich can be via a 10-mile partially off-road ride or by train.
Please contact if you are going and for ride details.

Thursday 9th

Meeting at West Suffolk Pub of the Year, Rattlesden Five Bells, starting at about half past eight.

Saturday 18th

V-CC Flat Section Lamplit Ride: Oil, gas and candle on period cycles preferred.
16:00 at the Assembly Point at Marlinspike Hall (TM367745) for an 18:00 depart on the eight-mile ride to Sweffling White Horse.  Full moon assisted from the night before.

Monday 27th
