The Space Aliens and the Asteroid
hypa can reveal that it was the pesky Space Aliens who altered the original course of asteroid 1997 XF11 so that it would hit the Earth. It is believed that they did this as a favour to the US government who actually requested that the asteroid be put on a collision course with Earth. This was so that they could test fire a top secret space-laser weapon at the asteroid.
It seems that the test firing was successful, and this explains why a later analysis showed that the asteroid would miss Earth by 600,000 miles instead of colliding with it.
