The residential accomodation is divided into 3 units, according to age. Each unit is supervised by a member of care staff and supported by a senior member of staff. There is a junior unit for years 6, 7 and 8 which is locked and closely supervised to provide security and stability for the younger boys. The senior boys have their own rooms, with locks on the doors to give them privacy. Boys are encouraged to decorate their rooms appropriately. Each unit has its own T.V. lounge and kitchen area to make hot drinks. Boys have free access to theit units out of school hours. Each unit has two care workers and a "floater" to cover for time off. Each boy has a key worker who is a care worker who knows the pupil well. This worker is responsible for the boys day to day well being and for contact with parents and local authorities. Often the key worker relationship develops into a deeper counselling and parenting role but boys have access to any staff member including teachers, many of whom work in the evening and at weekends, for support, guidance and counselling. Oversight of counselling is maintained by the Head. All staff have had some training in counselling and the school employs two independent counsellors who are available on two seperate days. Our GP and the Area Health Authority Psychiatric services work closely with the school where appropriate. |
