The Work Goes On

The team has not been resting on its laurels after the win at Monza and has been testing at both Mugello and Fiorano in an effort to further boost the F300's performance. Both Michael and Eddie have been working primarily on tyre testing, aerodynamics and setups.

Monza 1-2 For Ferrari

The team took a wonderful victory and second place at Monza to put Michael back in the driving seat for the world championship. After a disastrous start which even Michael described as "like going for a walk, not starting a race", he found himself down in fifth place but after passing Villeneuve and Irvine, he took the challenge to Hakinnen and passed him with a daring move at the Roggia after Coulthard's Mercedes engine blew. He was then unchallenged for the rest of the race and after the second McLaren was hampered by brake problems, Eddie was able to pass Hakinnen to finish in second place, and provide the perfect result for Ferrari, the tifosi and Italy. Michael is now joint first with eighty points and only two races left in the season.

Michael and Coulthard Make Up

Shuey and David Coulthard decided to end their differences before the race at Monza with private talks over the incident at Spa. The pair spoke for over an hour and Michael admitted he now feels Coulthard did not take him out deliberately however a refused to apologise for his anger as he believes DC made a bad decision to try to allow him past where he did. After the meeting Michael said: "If you go out of the race losing 10 points (having crashed with) a car you are lapping, you feel frustrated. Initially, you have the thought that, as it is a McLaren, there is something behind it. Then after a bit of time, you think David is not the sort or person who would do it and you calm down."

600th Celebrations

The team celebrated its participation in 600 Grand Prix with a huge party at Monza. Many of the teams former drivers were present and took part in the highlight of the celebrations, a demonstration of six Ferrari GP cars from the past including a 1950 375, Niki Lauda's 312 T2, a 1986 F186 and a 1996 F310. The drivers present included John Surtees and Phil Hill, both Ferrari champions, Rene Arnoux, Michele Alboreto and Gerhard Berger.

Michael a Sporting Legend

Gianni Agnelli, the honorary chairman of Fiat, Ferrari's parent company, and owner of Juventus, paid Michael a huge compliment recently when he compared him to the greatest footballer of all. He was asked which of his footballers could be compared with Shuey and he replied that " I've never had a footballer as good as him. If I had to compare him to anyone, it would be Pele. He is in a class of his own."
