UK walking holidays & hiking vacations in England: Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria. Small friendly groups, hotels & transport with experienced guides. Eden Explorer Holidays Curlew Guided Walking

One of northern England's best-kept secrets, the Eden Valley is a superb place in which to walk and soon to be considered for national park status. The river rises in the spectacular valley of Mallerstang flanked by dramatic and shapely hills. One walk takes us from Pendragon Castle, legendary home of King Arthur’s father to the evocatively named Wild Boar Fell. Mallerstang Edge offers another exhilarating walk along its escarpment to the deep ravine of Hell Gill reputed to have been leapt by fleeing highwaymen - we recommend the packhorse bridge!

"Thank you for all your help and guided walking last week. Rosemary and I really enjoyed the holiday." B. Fox, Hants, UK.

The rolling Westmorland plateau has delectable green paths beside chattering streams, the home of freshwater crayfish. There are many prehistoric remains as well as some exceptional limestone scenery. Many guests agree that the tiny chocolate factory at nearby Orton is also exceptional!
We can visit the northern Howgill Fells whose lonely summits rise from deep, uninhabited valleys unequalled for their sense of remoteness. The views reach down the length of Eden to the distant hills of Scotland. Tranquil riverside tracks lead past sleepy villages beside the Eden to the former county town of Appleby with its imposing Norman keep and fine sandstone buildings. From the pretty red sandstone village of Dufton we explore the North Pennines, a wilderness of wide horizons and lonely moorland tarns. Our arrival on the brink of the huge scoop of High Cup is a classic highlight of English walking.
"Thank you for your contribution to a very enjoyable week.
The walks & scenery were fantastic."
A. Uglow, Cornwall, UK.
