Why do we like words and phrases up about the place do you think?  I personally like the big words on my old dresser that spell out 'Love' & 'Happiness'.
Maybe they are a bit of much needed positive re-inforcement for us.  
So I started making names for bedroom doors and house signs and general alphabet letters and this has grown into phrases and decorated letters and signs of all sorts. 
I think of all the pottery pieces I make, letters are my absolute favourites.
