RELAXATION 98 v1.0

I come across stress at work increasingly often - so much so that I have coined the term "Work Related Stress Disorder".  The usual ingredients are as follows.

But Never Mind!  Relaxation 98 v1.0 is here.  It is freeware, and available on this page.   Traditional methods of stress reduction deal with the symptoms, but you can now also concentrate on the cause.  Like most simple remedies, its origins are lost in history, but I understand that Dr. Hanne van der Wel, from Whangarei, New Zealand, sent it to the U.K. as a Christmas greeting and it surfaced as a Newsgroups posting on 12th March 1998.  Just follow the simple instructions below, and you will find that your stress levels decrease dramatically.  You may need to repeat the exercise from time to time.

Lie down and close your eyes.

Breathe.

Slowly breathe in and out.

Feel yourself relaxing.

Concentrate on your breathing.

Now I want you to picture yourself near a stream.

Birds are softly chirping in the crisp cool mountain air.

Nothing can bother you here.

No one knows this secret place.

You are in total seclusion from that place called the world.

The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of
serenity.

The water is clear.

You can easily make out the face of a person whose head you are holding
under the water.

Look -

- it is the person who caused you all this stress in the first place.

What a pleasant surprise.

You let them up .. just for a quick breath .. then ploop! .. back under
they go .. you allow yourself as many breaths as you want.

There now, feeling better?

Hopefully so, but some users report difficulty in deciding which of many possible contestants to visualise under the water.  Future versions of Relaxation 98 will allow for this, enabling multiple duckings, and a group relaxation facility is under development.
