From the clifftop, you can see the effects of the cliff movements, which are still taking place along the unprotected sections of coast. Large areas of cliff are moving downwards towards the beach. All along the clifftop, there are cracks in the soil where the next section is preparing to move.

Picture 'a' was taken facing westwards towards Herne Bay. The jumbled mass of soil, grass and soft sedimentary rocks can be clearly seen.

Picture 'b' is looking slightly north-eastwards and although the cliffs here have not moved for a while, there is evidence that buildings once stood here and only the foundations remain. It is believed that it shows the remains of a 'tea-room' which at the time boasted excellent views of the sea!

As you walk along the footpath back to Reculver, you often see people wandering off the path to go and look at the sign some distance away - it reads "Danger - Keep Away From The Cliff Edge". How long before the sign itself joins the many other bits of debris on the beach ?
