You are standing on the path next to the twin towers looking NNE. The area in front of the twin towers has an unusual stone apron, built in the nineteenth century, to protect it from erosion. Small blocks of Kentish ragstone, about the size of a brick, have been set into the slope to give a curved, more natural look to the defences. The sea had begun to force some of the blocks of stone out of the apron and at the base of the lower slope, more large boulders (rip-rap) were added in 1999.
