Linnean
name applied to a mutant of the AAB group e.g. Pisang seribu. 'Seribu'
is Malay for 'one thousand' and refers to the very large fruit number per bunch. The
name is given, misprinted, as Musa chliocarpa Baker in Hotta1989.
If
Stover & Simmonds 1987 are correct in giving the origin of the name as applying to a
hybrid between Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana I don't see how Hotta 1989
can also be correct in giving Musa acuminata as a synonym. |
