Cathy writes: “Peale boasts: ‘My grandfather was a Mason for over 50 years, my father for 50 years, and I have been a Mason for 60 years. This means that my tie with Freemasonry extends back to 1869 when my grandfather joined the Masons….I am proud of my involvement’ [222] ‘To me, Freemasonry is one form of dedication to God and service to humanity. I am PROUD to walk in fraternal fellowship with my [Masonic] Brethren’ says Peale [223].

In 1973, Dr. Peale was awarded the Gourgas Medal [a Masonic award], the HIGHEST honor bestowed by the Northern Jurisdiction, and in 1987 [he] received the Grand Cross from the Southern Jurisdiction’ [224].

One article appearing in the Masonic magazine, The Scottish Rite Journal, in September 1995, was written by Ruth Stafford Peale, Norman’s wife. She wrote: ‘Being a Freemason was an important part of the life of Norman Vincent Peal, and the Scottish Rite meant a GREAT deal to him.’ [225]”.
