Mâconnais and its neighbours, Côte Chalonnaise & BeaujolaisL
Whites
Cuvee a I'Ancienne, Macon Blanc 2003, Paul Boutinot
Lovely peachy aromas on the nose leading to a full and ripe citrusy white
wine. Long and lingering finish with gentle acidity.
Macon Villages "Fleur" 2005, Domaine Saumaize Michelin
Toasty vanilla aromas lead to a palate that is round and well-balanced,
finishing with a fresh lemony touch.
St. Veran "Clos des Pierres Brulees" 2005, Thierry Guerin
A joyous tastebud tingler! Pale straw in colour, lemon leaves, acid drops
and spice on the nose and a long-lasting lemon cordial flavour.
Pouilly Fuisse "Les Ronchevats" 2005, Domaine Saumaize Michelin
Exotic peach and apricot flavours, smooth and full-bodied, dry with outstanding
complexity on the palate and a long finish.
Reds
Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine La Buffette 2003, Pardon et Fils
A most attractive cherry red, with raspberry glints and blackcurrant lingering
long in the mouth. Delicious served slightly chilled.
AOC Julienas 2005, Domaine du Clos du Fief, Michel Tete
Lovely sweet cherry fruit and raspberry jam on the nose. Sappy, lively
fruit well balanced with ripe tannin. Best ever year for Beaujolais.
AOC Mercurey Rouge 2002, Paul Massenot
Classic Pinot Noir aromas of beetroot and fresh raspberry with an extra
dimension supplied by 2 years barrel-ageing, softening the tannins and
adding a warm, spicy character to the fruit.
AOC Mercurey 1er cru Prestige 2002, Paul Massenot
Delightful light ruby coloured Pinot Noir from the best terroir in Mercurey.
The nose of small berries and spice is very enticing and the taste is
fresh yet concentrated showing flavours of raspberry coulis, brambles
with a touch of spice. Very impressive.
