White

Delas Viognier VDP d'Oc, 2012
Viognier is the grape of Condrieu, the great, and expensive, white wine of the Northern Rhône. Until recently it was seldom seen outside that area, but in recent times it has become common right across the south of France and in many other countries. It is a broad, full flavoured wine with low acidity. Delas are based in the Northern Rhône and have plenty of experience with viognier.

Fuedi di San Gregorio Falanghina, 2012
Continuing with the theme of full-bodied, soft wines is this Falanghina from Campania. The whites of the area inland from Naples are rightly famous for their quality and richness, and Fuedi di San Gregorio are one of the most respected producers.

Terenzuola Vermentino Superiore Colli Di Luni Fosso Di Corsano
Vermentino is traditionally the white grape of fine wines from Sardinia. Winemakers in Tuscany imported it some decades ago and now make fine wines. Sandy has enjoyed the fine balance of fruit for a long time and feels that they have continued to improve.

Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis, 2012
This is one of the very best producers of Chablis. Although this is only a village wine it demonstrates the clean, crisp entry into the mouth and the development of quality Chardonnay on the middle palate so typical of the region.

Red

San Marzano Il Pumo Negroamaro IGP Salento
Some of the best value wines from Italy, or indeed from anywhere else in the world, come from Puglia. The wines are typically easy, broad and generous. Negroamaro is a local grape which used to have a very low reputation, but in recent years it is accepted as having great potential.

Castelinho Douro Reserva 2009
This is a fine wine from the area of Portugal that makes Port. It is a mixture of local grapes, Touriga National, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, and has real style with rich, balanced fruit and integrated oak. It has won high awards in international competitions.

Domaine Pouderoux Terre Brune, 2009, Côtes Du Roussillon Villages
The wines of the Languedoc have come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years and are now some of the best value, and best quality, wines from France. Robert Pouderoux makes exceptional wines in the village of Maury. This wine blends Grenach, Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignan.

Leabrook Estate Cabernet Franc, 2007, Adelaide Hills
Colin Best, the owner of Leabrook Estate, is Sandy's favourite Australian winemaker. Everything he does is aimed towards the finest quality. If he has any reservations about a wine he will not release it. Having an Australian wine with a fair bit of bottle age is unusual, and it shows how well they can age. This is a fine wine which matches the elegance of the old world.
