presented the following wines on the theme Cool Climate
Australia
Pewsey Vale Riesling 2011
Eden Valley
The 2011 Pewsey Vale Vineyard Riesling is a classic example of dry Eden
Valley Riesling. A pale straw with green hues, the wine shows intense
fruit aromas of talcum, crushed stone and lemon lime fruit, with a hint
of overlaying dried herb. The palate shows great length and depth with
lime, a hint of white flowers and fresh rosemary. The wine finishes with
a fresh natural acidity that balances the flavour intensity and a minerality
that will reward medium to long-term cellaring.
Chateau Tahbilk Marsanne 2010
Victoria
Bright and intense with lifted floral, citrus & tropical fruits. A
minerally edge and delightful acidity finish it all off and provide support
for its long life ahead.
Yalumba 'Y Series' Viognier 2012
South Australia
Pale straw in colour, the 2012 Y Series Viognier has aromas of honeysuckle,
candied ginger and glacé pineapple that typify this exotic variety.
The palate is rich in texture and body thanks to wild yeast fermentation
and ageing on lees, yet retains a refreshing quality that make it a pleasure
to drink. Flavours to be found on the palate include fresh pineapple and
lychee.
Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2011
Margaret River
Typified by its bright, delicate fruit and a tight acid structure, the
2011 Chardonnay reflects the purity of this great variety in Margaret
River. Fermented with natural yeast and varying solids levels in the juice.
Matured in carefully selected French oak, then underwent a battonage program
over nine months of maturation, adding texture and depth.
Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2009
Mornington Peninsula
Deep ruby hue; bright condition. Bright, rich nose of cherry, plum, roses
and spices, showing great lift but complex notes provide depth underneath,
with touches of earth and spicy oak. A terrific combination of concentrated
fruit and complexity. This same impact of depth and concentration appears
on the palate, with bright cherry and plum flavours lighting up the front
and mid-palate. The wine has full body, and great texture with balanced
tannins that add length but leave the finish long and smooth. The soft
oak adds a nice note at the end.
Yalumba Shiraz Viognier 2009
Eden Valley
Select batches of Shiraz were fermented with a small percentage of Viognier
grapes, whilst other parcels were fermented with Viognier juice. This
has produced a soft and stylish wine showing subtle Viognier aromatics
combined with the medium weight and finer structure of Shiraz.
Medium to deep red in colour the Yalumba Eden Valley Shiraz Viognier
2009 shows sweet, fresh and fragrant aromatics of red cherries and plums
with a spice and clove complexity the complements the subtle perfumed
floral hints of Viognier. On the palate the wine is rich and softly textured
with characters of red fruits, fine spices and cloves, complemented by
the subtle sweet presence of Viognier. Match with beef bourgignon.
Moss Wood Amy's Blend Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Margaret River
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Petit Verdot, 12% Malbec, 5% Merlot.
Full of mulberry and redcurrant aromas, there are background notes of
oak, eucalyptus and capsicum. The palate is generous, juicy and quite
full bodied. The finish is long and shows fine, ripe tannins. Ready now,
it will cellar for 5-8 years.
